4AGE oil pump interchangability

Postby Stealer Of Souls » Thu Jan 19, 2006 10:43 am

Hey everyone.

Are all the 4AGE oil pumps interchangable? If so, which is the best one to get:-
For performance?
For slightly tweak blue top?

I'm just reconditioning a blue top for my car and don't have an oil pump for it at the moment and am wondering which one I should look for.
The only mods to the engine/ancillaries will be increased compression (to approx 10:1), 2in exhaust (but with the standard manifold), EWP to replace mechanical water pump (already on current engine), 8mm spark leads. The car also has aircon and electric radiator fans.

big ports (blue and red) use the same pump, small port a different one and the 20vs have one each.
the difference appears to be in the housing, and for the 20vs the rotors.
all the relief valves and springs are the same.
16v rotors are the same

Can any pump be installed in any block? Since I'm reconditioning a blue top, do I have to use a blue top pump? Or can I just get any 4AGE pump and put it in?

Unless I hear otherwise I'll just stick to a blue top pump then I suppose...

I heard a rumour that the blacktop oil pump was the best of the lot, and if possible use that one. But that was dealing with a 20v block and crank. So wasn't sure if the 20v pump would fit a blue top block/crank.

Cheers...

black top oil pump has different housing to silver top pump due to different cambelt tensioner, aslo on black top TDC mark is slightly different positioned.
