amp advice please

Postby Santa'sBoostinSleigh » Fri Jan 20, 2006 9:58 am

just got a txt from my cuz, asking what kind of amp he should use.

currently he has a pair of 460watt max / 80w nominal 6x9s, and factory? fronts
he just wants to amp the 6x9s to get some decent sound
he told me he looked at a couple of parallelimported.co.nz ones
300w 2ch $150
400w 2ch $250
no idea on brands

hes not sure if he wants to run a sub in the future, but doesnt think so - hes not a SPL or SQ type person, just wants his stereo to sound ok

at the mo, hes leaning towards the 400w 2ch one

any advice (or offers to sell him an amp) would be appreciated

and please dont say "get rid of the 6x9's" etc
he wants AMP advice

1) work in rms figures, no max figures
2) stick with name brands only, daewoo and other low brow brands are badly designed and aren't capable of providing the specified power.
3) if you are only amping the 6x9s then you'll only need a 2 channel, however if he wants a balance of sound then you can recommend him to look at getting some new fronts to ensure he's got some sound up front as well as in the back - i assume no sub?

na he doesnt really want a sub at the mo

so best wet would be to get a 80w RMS amp to match the 80w RMS speakers?

the best wet is something that you'll have to sort out in your personal time lol

as for the perferable amp, you want something with overhead.. try something that puts out 100wrms for some 80wrms speakers..
