Curren with a 4s-fe, engine suggestions?

Postby Jazza » Fri Jan 20, 2006 7:14 pm

My curren has a 4s-fe. Im not an absolute engine freak and i dont know alot about toyotas, but what kinda engine would be best suited for me to drop into it. Money isnt an issue, but id prefer to stay with something that aint gunna cause too many problems later on.

Or would i be better off just doing the clutch, gearbox, intake, exhaust and turbing it?

Sell it and buy a 3s-ge powered one. Or put a 3S-GTE in it. Since your asking this question tho, id go with option A.

My main problem was finding one. I got mine dirt cheap, i wont say the exact price but lets say i payed half of what its insured for. All the others ive seen being sold (That arnt thrashed or wasted) are going for 8-12, usually from dealers...

Suggestions where to buy one?

Do Curren's have a tunnel for a drive shaft?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

use the search function. The 3sgte is a good motor if it's properly maintained.

Ps. Read these and learn:

Theres no real major problems known in the GT4s, most are blown due to being run dry of oil - meaning spun bottom end bearings and rods going out the block... I can think if 1 that hasnt been opened up yet, and has been running a reliable 200fwkw for a few years now.

A family friend owns a beaurepairs store. Unfortunately he knows what i drive (my honda and toyota) so when i go in, i can only get tires for those 2 cars and he puts them on to make sure i dont go flicking them, believe me, ive tried before. Took in the mrs' prelude and hes like... umm.. your plate isnt Lilqt... haha

Thanks All_Fours that clarified alot. The way i drive i doubt my gearbox will hold up, i give that car stank. (Makes mental note to rotate bald tires from front to rear) I think id stick with the mr2 stick. What am i looking generally for a price.
Engine?
Gearbox?
Help putting it in?
Minor repairs?
Probably looking about 2k in total?

Availability of parts?

*EDIT* Would i need to do the brakes too? I only got drums in the back, but my front disks are amazing.

Thanks everyone, your being real helpful, keep putting up with my lack of toyota knowledge

My dad can wire and plumb it and from what i understand with an S series in it already and going to a 3SGTE i shouldnt need to change the mounts at all.
