this is why boy racers get a bad name

Postby agressor » Sat Jan 21, 2006 1:44 am

just at tauranga tonight (midnight) crossing the main tauranga harbour bridge when i hear sirens up behind me look back and theres a RX7 screaming over the bridge driving on boy sides of the road avoiding on coming cars etc doing prolly almost colliding with other cars about 6-7 times and then comes 5 or so cop cars screaming after him racing into tauranga and the rx7 prolly heading to motorway, not sure what happened but he was $&#$% lucky not to hit someone and take them over the barrier

what a knob, but i have to say, if you were in that situation, doing say 150+, would u stop to get pulled up ??? my thoughts exactly.

But if your a sensible driver you wouldnt do 150kmh on public roads :)

its only a 70k zone heading towards downtown tauranga (speed bumps, loads of people clubbing) i dont know how fast he was going exactly but he was flying and the cops were to after him, the way he was going wouldnt be surprised if he crashed cause if he didnt i delt the cops got him

Clause?

They make a decision based on the danger of the situation, theres no 'fixed speed' except that theres a guideline in place. The cops are entitled by law to do whatever speed is necessary except where it causes excessive risk to the public.

You'll find that theyre on the radio back to comms constantly providing updates on speed, road conditions, traffic levels and the driving behavior of the guy being chased.

But yeah, definately a moron...

and if he did get caught you can bet he'll be crying about "f'ing pigs" and unfair treatment and they'd be better off trying to stop all the serious crime. and then people will start going on about how the cops shouldn't have been following them at those speeds and all jump on their case instead of the idiot who caused the whole situation.

seriously unless people start getting some respect back for cops and cutting them a little slack all of this sort of stuff is just going to get worse and worse.

cheers

Yeh there is no fixed speed. I've listened to them chasing a guy once. Was on a state highway, no traffic. Comms asked for an update, cop said he was doing 180 and the wrx was still pulling away in the distance... lol

He pulled over.

hmmm he onli accelerated to speeds of 50-60 kmph? didnt say anything bout loss of traction or anything, i think thats a bit harsh. Accelarting to 50-60 kmph and getting 6 mtnhs suspension and a fine  and not breaking traction. thats what like veryone does to cut in front of you at the lights etc etc

I'm glad someone posts stuff that actually knows what they are talking about. Think about it Low_Aa63 if they had to stop at 120kp/h then when a policeman started chasing you, you could just get to 140 and they would have to stop wouldn't they and they would never catch speeders.

I was at court once on work experience and a guy was in the docks for dangerous driving. The judge asked him why he was travelling at almost 180kph and the guy replied "I dunno aye, but I'm surprised that cop kept up with me."

It is a well known fact the if you drive fast enough in dangerous area's that the cops will let you go.

and they wonder why so many people try to do a runner :(

You would think that a cop could keep up with a car going 180kph...

Depends on the level of driver training and experience he has. On NZ roads, that speed can be quite freaky.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

He was probably told to stand down by comms. Have you not seen the uproar the $&#$% media and the public yell when some "poor kid" was chased by the cops making him crash and die.

This country is $&#$% up. The person that crashed is entirely at fault, but the public goes on and on and on, so often comms will tell the cop to stand down if there is no hope of trying to catch them quickly.

Also the others are right, in a built up area comms will quickly call off a chase if it because dangerous to the public's safety or the cop's. And yeah, the officers are required to do a running commentry on their speed, road conditions, traffic, etc, like BlakJak said.

Exactly right, and if for some reason the cop stops updating comms every couple of minutes, they will be told to abandon the chase.

was just talking to a police friend. cosp pulled out due to dangerous speeds, guy was doin like 180 down cameron road on both sides of the road. cops called off the pursuit...

so yes he got away but...

dumbarse flipped the car out the back of pyes pa and took the top of his mates head off. there were no cars in pursuit, the chase ended a good 20 mins previous haha. so they caught him after wards an his mate had to go to hamilton hospital via air express.

he was pulling sum dangerous stunts tho, we were on hewletts road wen he and 3 other cops passed us on the blind corner after the roundabout by were the old toll gates were. over the harbour bridge at like 120-140 passing cars etc. scary shit for sure.
