They make a decision based on the danger of the situation, theres no 'fixed speed' except that theres a guideline in place. The cops are entitled by law to do whatever speed is necessary except where it causes excessive risk to the public.
You'll find that theyre on the radio back to comms constantly providing updates on speed, road conditions, traffic levels and the driving behavior of the guy being chased.

wasn't going from turikina to marton was it, i've heard exactly the same scinareo, with a red wrx,, listened to it on teh police scaner
