2C diesel timing

Postby KE20 » Mon Jan 23, 2006 11:51 am

ive change the head gasket on a 2C engine in a corona CT170 , what a mission 18 head bolts. but any way, it wont start now, i think the cam might be out a notch or 2 on the belt, and probably the diesel pump as well. does anyone know where to line stiff up too. there are not timing marks on the cover, but i found a timing notch on the crank pulley, theere is a mark on the cam gear, but nothing to line it up too, and i can find anything on the diesel pump.
cheers

this sounds silly.... have you bleed the fuel system? diesel don't like air. they won't start if got air in the line/system.

i never disconnected the fuel system, and yes i did then bleed system.
to change head gasket. i unbolted headbolts, lifted head, slide old gasket out, slide new one in, lowered head, did head bolts back up. it sounds like the valve are opening early or something, real easy to crank and sounds diffferent.

i suppose youll sell it now to some poor bugger, anyway the cam timing mark is on the plate behind the gear inline with the rocker cover surface on the right hand side (inlet manifold side), the pump timing is the notch in the plate at about the 2 oclock position, the pump should feel like its preloading or wanting to compress, you really should use a dti to set plunger travel but good luck anyway.

the pointer is below the crank pulley (stupid i know) A DTI ia a dial test indicator its used to correctly set injection puump timing, but seeing as you havent moved the pump then it should be near enough to run.
