Clutch Fuild > Competition use

Postby beeker » Mon Jan 23, 2006 7:46 pm

Trying to make my mind up between using my race brake fluid in my clutch cycliner or switch to 5.1 Silicon stuff so i dont need to change it so often.

I'm making the assumption that the clutch fluid never gets that hot.

For those that race, whats the norm ? and whats the maintenance cycle ?

PS. Its a Targa AE86 car.

i've always just used normal dot4 clutch fluid in my car, and it gets a fair workout on the track.

with 86 the exhaust is miles away so heat not really an issue.

I would just make sure it's clean and bled and you'll be fine.

Yeah I've normally just run a dot4 fluid in the clutch. Else I try & use the same as the brakes that way you only need to carry the one lot if you need to top up. Only time I'll use something oddball is if your running a hydraulic centre release bearing like a tilton/quartermaster etc as some of them(can't remember which) run seals which it pays to run only the fluid they recommned in otherwise they leak & playup.
