Noisey on coast

Postby BLKTOP » Mon Jan 23, 2006 6:51 pm

If there is a slight noise coming when your coasting from the gearknob or there abouts area what would this mean? Only comes on coast and goes off when you press the clutch. Noise is very slight but stil audible. Anything i can do to stop the noise? Sounds like a noisey small fan (if that makes sense?!)

Thanks!

Im not sure about gearbox noises, but could it be coming from the diff on overrun? check the gearbox level. Im assuming its front wheel drive, if not check the diff also.

its more of a whining noise. comes when when the foot is taken away from the accelerator. it only seems to be in 2nd and 3rd gears so it must be a gearbox issue? What do you mean by gearbox level? Noise dissapears as soon as i press the accelerator again. Thanks!

level means fluid level, is that ok?
could possibly be an input bearing (or other bearing). Input ones go every now and then, although they wine in all gears generally...so maybe not.
could try some heaver fluid, but thats not necessarly stopping a potential issue.

sorry for not making my question clear. Yes its a 1997 curren ss2. manual. 3sge. fwd. To me it seems to be coming from somewhere around (or slightly in front of ) the shift knob area. Yeah the whine is audible in 4th as well i suppose. not too sure about 5th and 1st. Car is pretty quiet except for that so its a bit annoying (Its always something isnt it!). Thanks!

How many owners before you? Could be the gearbox getting ready to head out... My civic started making noises like that and (I dont mean to alarm you) bam, a month later, gearbox died.

Although mine were more intermitent noises, they started then stopped and started again... ill read up on the subject and try help out.
