Anyone here have knowledge on brake upgrades for caldinas? I want better braking and heard mintex do a good rebonded compound and you can have your brand new discs slotted and get new brake lines also and obviously upgrading fluids.

The downside will be excessive disc wear and lots of brake dust i guess, so pretty much like driving my old BMW!

Any probs or opinions on this?

this doesn't relate specifically to caldinas, but I went from standard pads to mintex 1166's and was amazed at the difference from what I had before.

I've also used metal kings and ferodo ultimates and the mintex ones were streaks ahead.

Mintex 1166 are great pads. They are quite dirty though, and very hard on rotors (in direct relation to how hard you drive).

I have them on my club car, and my other half has them on her road car.

Try to find an aftermarket disk thats already slotted as it will probably be cheaper. Thats if you can find any!

I really need to change my rear disks but I was quoted $290 each for the standard Toyota rear disks.....$&#$% What! Nobody I've talked too can find a suitable aftermarket disk. I obviously don't know the right people.

yeah the toyota rears are pricey, thats coz of the drum handbrake design
fronts are a lot cheaper.

im pretty sure DBA do a slotted caliper thatll fit

Email Alaric from Driven Performance (TWSTD) He can probally help you out here... he can supply mintex pads, and he has disc upgrades from my knowledge... check the website anyhows

I would have thought that the big brakes from an ST205 would be a good upgrade for a Caldina?

Or are they not as easily interchangeable as what I thought it was?

No they're not an easy swap, I've never seen any front brake upgrades for the Caldina , however http://www.geocities.co.jp/MotorCity/2153/page033.html shows an upgrade to the rears using ST205 calipers. Looks a bit mickey mouse to me with the old dust covers being left in place, but that's only judging by the pics as I don't read Japanese and translation engines leave a lot to be desired

I worked out with my AE92, I could go through three sets of standard rotors for the same price as one set of slotted rotors! Thus, I am on to my second set of standards on the front (lasted about 3,500 km before warping, but lots of track use in that time).

what about about late late model turbo caldina (why do i want to say st246?) brake's? they look meaty as
