20v problems

symptons

coolant frothing and over heated with 2 minutes or run time.

im going to remove the thermostat tomorrow to have a look see

any other things i should look at?

compression check/leakdown check.

In 2 minutes of idling the thermostat probably would only just be begining to open. If it's already overheated by then I'd be seriously suspecting the headgasket. Is the engine from a car that you saw running?

yeah i saw it running, it was fine.
there doesnt seem to be much pressure in the lower radiator hose, so maybe thats blocked.

will try giving that a flush tomorrwo and remove the thermostat to see whats up.

sounds pretty good for a 20v

Radiator cap??

You've probably checked that though.

(Was what killed my 20v before i bought it, and just happened to my mates GTT gave the same symptoms you described)

could very well have an airlock. how much coolant did you get in it?

radiator cap was off, but yeah will get a new one anyway.
about 4litres of water went in, maybe slightly less 3.5litres maybe.

been out to the car, removed thermostat
topped up water. still not sure exactly how much is in there.

had car running for about 2 mins, check engine light came on, then about 20 seconds later the water temp gauge went from below cold to right up past hot.

turned it off, still frothing.
