Thrust Washers. (3sge)

Postby RomanV » Tue Jan 24, 2006 10:38 pm

On either side of the number three mains bearings, are four 'thrust washers'.

I know where they go, but the engine manual that I have seen is rather vague about the installation etc of them.

Do they need any adhesive etc. to the sides of the bearing caps?
Or do they just sit there?
My engine manual merely states "Install thrust washers" Which is rather vague. :?

I am assuming that they are there to restrain the movement of the crank, eg. it stops it from trying to pull itself out towards the flywheel end of the block?

They just sit there with abit of oil to temp hold them untill the cranks in place (crank holds them in place). Grooves from memory face out (away from the bearing cap).

Aaah okay, thanks.

I can only find three of them, and it looks like the 'third' one is a third top one, as they have a notch in them at the top, and it wont fit in the bottom. :?

Hrmm, perhaps I should investigate getting some new ones anyway.

Very important to check crankshaft endfloat on assembly especially if a heavy clutch diapragm has been (or will be) used on the engine
If it doesn't fit, force it.
If it breaks it needed replacing anyway!
