Patrol comsumption problem

my 1995 AE111 BZG has been consuming too much petrol i think. i use 95 and it only does about 9ks per litre... i usually change gear at da 2000 - 2500 rpm.. my fd's car does da same and do 12 - 13 ks / litre... there are no oil leeks on my car and i've just changed motor oil and stuff but it still turns out to be the same

Run it on 98, might not use as much patrol.

do you mean your friends car (also a bzg) gets the same milage,

thats pretty good
anything above 10 is good actually...

not to mention a bz-g is a high strung n/a that requires a bit of throttle and revs to get around easily. (moreso than a torqier engine, say a x1r pulsar)

x1r pulsar has $&#$% all torque. Have you driven one? it is guttless. (i'm talkin about GA15DE or 16DE). I can get 600Km out of 50L tank on my AE101 if I stay off happy revs and below 50% throttle...
If you are good with multimeter you can check your oxygen sensor, and fuel trim.
While the car is hot and running have a mate to hold it ~2000rpms, check voltage between Ox and E1 pin in diagnostics connector, the voltage should fluctuate between 0 and ~1V atleast 8 times in 10seconds. (if not there is something wrong, possible oxygen sensor). If it checks out check the voltage between Vf and E1 pins it should be 2.5V. if it is below that fugure (either 0v or 1.75v) then it means it tries to overcorrect the lean condition or running in limp mode. If it is above (3.75 or 5v) the ECU then tries to overcorrect the rich mix. Don't forget to check for error codes aswell.

I agree with Cozmo, they are torquey down low. I remember flooring one in 5th at 80kms and it didnt take long to get to 120 was real surprised. They dont go too badly, probably not as good as a 4age though

Motors only feel torquy down low when they have nothing up top.

Back on topic, like sergei said check the error codes. Recently I checked mine and it pulled a code although the engine check light hadnt come on. About 3 weeks before that I had shocking fuel econ as I had unplugged my water temp sensor. I pulled the ecu fuse out to reset the code and it never came back and Im not sure what it was a coincidence but it hasnt used as much fuel since. Could be worth a try

I've driven hundreds of thuse pulsar/sunnys/lucinos (GA powered) and I would say they have nothing up the top, and very little on the bottom, for such a light car of course they would feel that they have more torque but they don't... max toruqe is 145Nm at 4000rpm (1.6) vs 162Nm at 5600rpm (blacktop).

so yeah it does sound as if you have an issue.

also how accurate have you been on your calculations?

best way to measure is to:
fill it up (till the top), reset the meter drive till almost emty and fill it up again (till the top), divide kms by amount of litres from last fill. you will get accurate number. (although conditions are not accurate, but if you will always do this, you will know exactly how much you car is taking gas on the long run).
My celica on other hand is only getting 400km out of 60L tank. But on that I do "spirited" driving in the weekends...

thats pretty impressive over ones in my experience. Was your test averaged over several months or just the one tank?
Ive generally seen around 10.5ish on 20v's in the past

I get 13-15kms per litre depending on my driving...
( Spirited driving is about 11-12kms)

iv got that SARD ecu which pulls some fuel out of the top end

In my bz-t wagon I get an average of 11.87 k/l. I measure and record fuel comsumption every fill. Have been doing so for 14 months now so have a good range of data.

so do u guys think dat its da ecu problem in my car? btw, my engine sumhow is just getting louder than before, there seems to be a "ga ga ga ga" noise coming from the engine (like da 1s from land cruisers). my fd said my engine may be damaged...
