Fitting ABS into AE111

hi to all mechanic guru,

anyone know how much would it cost to install ABS unit into my BZG, i.e. labour and parts??

wanted to know is it possible i.e. too many parts to source and too troublesome...

also wat r the thing i need to look out for the ABS unit...

ABS doesn't work well on gravel, in fact its useless.

And as said above major pain to retro fit ABS.

for daily driving its good.

for certain competion events it can be a hindrance

i see, my car is for normal driving, not for competition...
i guess either sell it to get a ABS fitted car or just keep on driving...

If you are good driver, even on ABS equiped car you will not require the brake assistance in emergency situation (ie the ABS will not kick in). Unless it is the bloody honda ABS wich kicks in in every occasion it feels like...

quite true... me good driver, still maintaining accident free record...

no air bag and no ABS make me a better driver as i need to drive more careful instead on relying on the technology...

I used to think ABS wasn't really needed until one wet night when I turned left out of Harewood Road heading towards Northlands mall. Sped up to 50km/h, lots of oncoming traffic and the van travelling infront of me just stops with no warning, anchors on, ABS kicks in, car stops, it happened in all of a second maybe two

oh... wet road, i think that is when ABS really come in helpful... i had a few incident on wet road when i had to brake hard to avoid accident and the car slide for almost one second, i can imagine if i am on motorway with 100km/h, ABS would really be helpful...

..takes foot off middle pedal, re-applys foot using a pulsing technique...=)

yea, learning to pulse brake is easy and works fine if you dont freeze under stress (some people do though).
to fit would cost shit loads paying someone, not to mention the parts.
best option (which I would still not do) would be to get a wrecked car. you need all the master/pump unit, sensors, hubs, loom...
I removed it from one of my last cars...but Im a little anti technology in cars sometimes

The advantage of ABS, is that if the front wheels lock up, it only regulates the front wheels..

whereas on a non ABS car, you have to take your foot off the brake, and therefore unbrake all four wheels.

A certain brake bias isnt ideal for every situation...

a good front rear brake bias that is good in the dry (when you can get a lot of weight transfer) wont be any good in the wet.

ABS = win.

Although installing ABS would be a big PITA.
You'd need ABS axles, sensors, wiring, computer, master cylinder, etc. etc. Not worth it at all.

I dont have it though.

I dont mind though, I have found it to be annoying on ABS equipped cars that Ive driven.

Are you sure that it has sensors on both sides?
Most cars have three channel ABS, which might only use one sensor on the rear. (just a guess)

Drive without insurance for a year....

it makes you pay so much more attention, increase your following distances, not follow expensive cars, etc.

You pay more attention when you know that you're gonna be shafted incredibly if you hit anything.

lol...the theory is sound...not sure about the practice however
