Track Day's?
Hey were would be the best place to take my first laps on a track? im keen to give it a go but don't wana be droped into a race first off any suggestions were it would be good to prac? (pref on a track not the street) and were would i find the track days for the differnt tracks?

and i have an issue on licence its a L! and im guessing this will affect me being allowed in?
Most race tracks require a restricted liscence for trackdays but there are ways around that.
I would reccommend joining your local car club (Hamilton car club would be the go) and do some events such as autocrosses and motokhana. They will require parental permission if you're under 18 and for mose events you will need a helmet, overalls and a .9kg (or bigger) fire extinguisher.
The only track "openday's" that I have been to are at Manfeild raceway (Feilding) and they run every month from june to October-ish. Go to www.manfeild.co.nz/events.asp for when they are on and info.
I do believe Puke and Taupo run days aswell but don't know when as I don't live nearby.
So yes, join the car club then get your restricted.

yep puke track run test days most fridays, check out www.pukekohepark.co.nz for dates if your interested

went to one a week or so back, awesome day, good to go on fridays after new years break is finished, as quite quiet with everyone back at work. good to be able to get out on the track and get the feel of it without feeling the pressure of a lot of people around.

They're gone now, replaced by Single Car Sprint days.
Feilding though, so probably not much use to him.
Learner, Restricted, Full. Makes no difference at a MotorSport permitted event, because you're not on the public roads are you?
with a learners... I guess this is why people do it on uncontrolled roads?I am not familiar with Pukekohe days, but I suspect they are not actually a permitted event (not in the sense that they're forbidden, or naughty, merely that they're not a "competition" event ).
Now you're probably even more confused ...
Anyway, in a small nutshell.
Join a car club
Get a "clubsport" licence.
Do competitions until you run out of money or cars.
Learner licence isn't an issue.

Yeah leon I know that, I ran most of them last year to get track experiance.
The manfeild clubsportdays require a restricted liscense so they know you can operate a car before sending you out.
What would you like to do on a "track day"?
1 - Drive your car and learn about it's handling and your driving?
2 - Improve your driving?
3 - Take part in some form of motor sport event?
4 - race another car?
5 - race many cars?
A typical track day (sometimes called driver training day) as has been run in the past under the Toyspeed name by either myself or Chelles involves 1 and 2 of the above. Informal, 4 to 6 cars on the track at a time sent out at intervals. One or 2 rules on passing and driver behaviour.
If you would like to do 3, 4 or 5 you will have to join a car club:
3 - you will need to join a car club and get a clubsport license (basically fill in a form and pay some money). This could be a grasskhana, tarmac motorkhana, hill climb, bent sprint etc. All one car at a time against the clock, maybe with time penalties for knocking over cones etc. You can use your roadcar.
4 - Dual Sprint. Held at a racetrack. You will need to be a carclub member and have a clubsport license. You race one other car for 3 or 4 laps of the racetrack. You can use your roadcar or racecar.
5 - Race. Held at a racetrack. You will need to be a carclub member and have a national race license (fill in a form, do a short exam, pay some money). Race up to 10 to 20 other cars. Racecar required (doesn't have to be expensive!). Extremely good fun!

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!
on same topic here, I've recently joined South Auckland Car Club, is any one here from same club, I would like to know a few insights, and what events can I take part in, as for noobs like me? I feel lost, I don't even exactly know where to pay membership fee (I've recieved the blue card and red covered booklet).
