Postby 86_rolla » Tue Jan 31, 2006 7:03 pm

Its a 1996 RVR open gear (electirc sunroof model), red, never thrashed (owned by my parents), stock as a rock, just needs new window rubbers and MAYBE a new roof motor or something and tune for $2995. what do you guys think cool? no? probs? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 024395.htm

exactly the same as this but red. Oh yea auto as well

They're cool in a quirky kinda way, but no way would you ever catch me owning a mitsubishi. I hate to think what it'd cost if the roof crapped out :?

He was probably refering to the mitsi's other fault of rusty roof syndrome.
They rust out from the inside out on the roof supports.

since it belonged to your olds it shouldnt be an issue, but on a private sale id make sure you test the trans well...Ive seen a fair few rvr's with dodgy trans's

Why does everyone trash Mitsis?

I've owned two, one finished up with a mazda flattened behind it at 450,000km, and the other tangled with an FXGT - 192,000km. Neither had rust.

My dad owned a Sigma turbo - that did 289,000km before we sold it. Problem free as well I might add. And he currently owns a Delica with 278,000km on it (reminds me I gotta do an oil change on it) and the only thing wrong with it is that the air con don't work.........

Yeah I reckon.

My '89 Galant (my daily driver) has over 400,000kms on the clock, and it's on the original motor and was on orignal clutch up until 330,000kms. Mine has no rust.

Matt, the rust issue is only limited to the '91 to '97 Lancer/Mirages and Liberos. It was because the adhesive used to bond the supports to the roof lining would turn acidic when moisture would react with it. It was 3M's screw up - not Mitsubishis.

Sure Mitsubishi have their flaws, but what car manufacturor doesn't?

I've had more issues with my Corolla, than I have ever had with all my Mitsubishis (6 of them).

theres lots of mitsu's I'd own, some models are good some are not quite as relaiable. I'd like a diamante, but only a new new zealand with a plain auto trans. As with anything, you get good ones and bad ones...but this is a toyota forum, so expect some people to be biased (warranted or not)

Ask any mechanic/parts sales about Mitsubishis and you'll get a better idea ;)

That is if you can find one thats not a complete muppet.

When replacing a BHG in a friends car I was told the wrong torque settings for head bolts twice by mitsubishi manurewa, both times they gave me different settings but both were completly wrong.

Had to bring out the angry face to find out the right info, and start shouting to get them to replace the streched head bolts.

Stupid Mitsubishis

Oh and on topic, a family friend had an RVR ate 2 auto gearboxs in 2 years.

I know that as dad own a panel shop and does them all the time.

they all have there flaws but mitsi's seem to have more than there fair share.

When we have bets on what wrong with them when we see them being towed in and we all wnat to bet on the same part you know there is a problem.

in the last ten years, they have massive amounts of recalls. Chrysler pulled their money out, and they havn't produced a decent competitive car since Tommi left them.

my old man always told me,'if the name starts with 'M' ,don't touch it unless it's a Maserati, then at least you can afford to fix it'.
