ST185 Celica GT Four: Transmission Warning Light

Hello, me again. I recently had the orange warning light on my dash come up (the transmission one). I assumed that this was because the rear differential was moving around a lot (the main diff bush was broken). So I very recently had this bush replaced (the bush alone cost $290!), but this warning light keeps coming on. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

no such thing as a transmission warning light on the GT-Four. Probably check engine light. Time to check for error codes

If it's any help, the 3 more cryptic warning lights (i.e. not the obvious ones like seatbelt/oil/lights) in the st20x celicas are:

The warning light has a picture of an engine = the "Check Engine" light.

The picture looks like heat or wavey lines coming of pipe with a raised section = the "Exhuast system overheat warning light" and it appears when the temperature of the catalytic converter rises above normal or the sensor has a problem (broken/disconnected)

Exclamation Mark in a circle = Handbrake is on Or the brake fluid is low

Ok so it looks like its an engine warning light, so how do you see what error code your getting? Take the car to a Toyota dealer?

turn off car, bridge pins TE1 and E1 in the diagnostic connector (by the windscreen wiper motor) with a piece of wire, turn car to 'ON' and it will flash out codes, ie:
flash flash flash brief pause flash flash flash flash long pause
would be code 34

it will cycle through doing each code until they're all done, then it will go back to the start and do them again

Ok so I connected TE1 to E1 and got error code 42. Anyone know what this means? And how to fix the problem? Thanks for the help.

a quick google for "code 42 toyota" brought up this:

Code 42 Vehicle Speed Sensor

No speed sensor signal to ECU when loaded driving condition with engine speeds 2000 to 5000 rpm. for 8 seconds or more.


Nothing major, if the speedo is working then the wire from the speed sensor (on the gearbox) to the ECU may be broken, or you could possibly have a faulty sensor

Thanks for the advice. Would it be worth getting Toyota to look at this (the speedo is still going)?
