I just sold my 1997 Celica which has a 3SFE in it, was a great car to drive and cheap on petrol, i had not long lowered it (with second hand springs and then put new springs in too) and done alot of work on her but she just was too small for what i need now... (a 4 door car) im still crying over having to do it but its for the best and i hope the next owner looks after it like i did

OK! So it's settled, I'm getting an SS2 Celica without Superstrut.
Now it's just a matter of finding one...

If you can get a 1996 model or later for under $10,000 your doing ok

Just to add something that I don't think has been mentioned yet: The 6th gen celicas underwent a facelift in 1996.

This include a number of small fixes and tweaks and can be easily recognised by the front bumper having seperate 'holes' for the lower fog lights, and clear indicators. Also, the rear lights have a more smoked look and clear indicator (with visable orange lense).

What year celica SS2 (man, 3sge) could I pick up for around 6-8k?
And what sort of km's to year ratio is reasonable? (eg is it OK for a 1995 to have done 200 000kms etc)

My 96 celica was $8995 (after some negotiation) from a used car yard. the average was around the $12k mark in my area (i looked from Dunedin to Timaru) and it had 95k kms on it (now has 105k kms on it after 3 months). I'd say for $8k a 94/95 celica with 100k kms sounds about right.

shows that SS2 super strut suspension version has standard LSD. Is it ture? Is there any why to check if the car has LSD?
Im going to buy one of this car. 94' 138k $4300, clutch need to be replaced. how is the price?

can't say about the lsd sorry, but the price is pretty good providing the basic maintenance has been done, such as cambelt, oil and filter...the usual things. If looked after, these engines are capable of doing at least 300k kms. If driven really hard and not looked after they may only do 150k kms.

Some (Most, I think) of the 'beams' powered celicas came with a helical LSD in the gearbox. I'm not sure about the earlier versions however.

Is there any why to check the condition of the engine? I got another choice. 95' SS2, 108k, adjustable suspension, $4500. but the engine has some noise like bearing sound. Which one should I buy? cambelt has been done on both of them

According to the website i mentioned all SS2 super strut version become SS3 in 1996 and they came with LSD
