I was drivin along in my fwd rona, n saw 1 the same with a 4wd badge - looked legit so i got thinkin.. I love the boot space they have i mean i could chuck a couple of decent sized subs n amps in there and still have well a boot...

Neway.. 4wd corona, chuck a non turbo 3sgte in thr with a bit of work done 2 it, stiffen the chassis and suspention, sum nice wheels with wider tyres and a bit of ice n i'l b away laughin with a decent runabout and a bit of fun at the lights too. Nw ne1 knw whr i can get a 4wd corona and how much it will likely cost me?

none turbo 3sgte? why not use its name, 3sge? quicker

of course your fwd Corona with a 3sge would be faster than a 4wd Corona with a 3sge because you won't have the added drivetrain loss and weight of the 4wd system. The 3sge doesn't have the grunt to need 4wd (it's like a 4wd 4age - dumb)

So really there would be no point to doing this with out a turbo even if i had the engine worked?..

I have a 4WD 3SGE (Caldina Chassis) and can vouch for the fact it aint quick.

Its nice to have the extra Torque though. Cant imagine having this car on a 3SFE (Like the TZ)...

The f series engines are actually quite good down low, I haven't seen comparative dyno plots but that's why they are usually the ones with towbars.

Re 3SFE Torque: Actually I have an idea you're not wrong, but the 3SGE does have more power available to it at revs as well, so is better in that respect. Its been a long time since I actually looked at the figures or did any comparisons... my last 3SFE was 4 years ago...

Power 138 bhp @ 6000 rpm
Torque 138 ftlb @ 4400 rpm

3S-GE Engine (1994 - 1997)
Capacity 2.0 litres
Induction Normally Aspirated
Cams Double overhead cam
Power 177 bhp @ 7000 rpm
Torque 142 ftlb @ 4800 rpm

So theres a little more torque - but also a lot more power @ revs on the 3SGE... (theres a big hole below 2500RPM in my car... gotta keep revs up to keep the power levels up... )

Re 'Something a bit different': Caldina hardly counts nowadays, so many of em about. But I do agree that boot space etc is nice.

- Had a GT-Four, now have a Caldy...

But what would be the torque comparison at 1500 rpm?

Max figures don't really mean too much unless you're constantly at redline, it's all about the curvage.

who drives at 1500rpm anyway? I found it is much more economical to drive in 3000rpm region on my 20v and 3SGTE...

You don't automatically jump from zero-6800 rpm everyday do you.

I can't find a plot... who would dyno a 3s-f anyway :lol:

I was just pointing out that the f series were developed for another purpose and can't be discounted entirely.

There was one dude that said he towed a trailer with his BZ-T and just changed at 5krpm... that's the disadvantage of power over drivability.

Dont want a caldina, heaps of the gt-t around, i want all tht gear in a corona..

I can't find a plot... who would dyno a 3s-f anyway :Laughing:

If i can find sumwhr who dont charge much to do a simple dyno and print out i'll do it lol

Has anyone driven the 2.2 litre camry's?

You want low down torque, get one of them.
but the have a super low redline and they run out of puff before they get there too!.
