so now hav a 20v blacktop 4age and thought hey y not drop it in the panelvan, so now jus gotta source i think a T50 gb, im thnking of using the 4.4 diff thats already in there( i only care bout mean acceleration screw top end) or how hard to find and fit a hilux diff, arent they lsd

im gona ditch the injection system so dnt hav to change fuel pump etc and jus gona run some siddies get some race cams for a nice lumpy idle and that shud b all of my money gone

4.4 with a T-50 behind a blacktop will see you over 180.

Hilux diff's are plentiful, you just have to find one that is the right width. Some are lsd, some are not.

I'd be keeping the EFI and changing the fuel setup in the car.

Sounds like a good plan, but a couple of things. If you planing on going with carbs I've got 20V manifolds to suit a blacktop, it would just be a matter of double checking they don't foul on anything else & aren't too long with regards to the carbs or trumpets hitting the inner guard.

What do you plan to do for ignition?? We've done plenty of Zetec/Duratecx & vauxhall 2L motor's into escorts & lotus 7 replicas etc & you strike the same problem either they run a crank angle sensor & no distributor standard or else if they run a distributor type setup it's usually in the wrong place. We've fitted a few Link LEM V5's as ignition only to get round this problem & apart from a few odd problems with some odd coils/ignitors it seems to work pretty well. I'm guessing you could adapt the 4agze crank angle sensor setup to work.

why would you even think to go to carbs, it wouldnt be cheap, and imo a complete waste of a good engine

changing the fuel system is easy.
get a high pressure external fuel pump, put it in line just out from tank, and replace the rubber hoses with high pressure efi hose so they dont burst, you could even spent $30 for a 6meter length of 10mm bundy tube and make a complete new supply line to engine. factory fuel return should suffice

an airtex pump can be had for $120 and will work in either intank or external, available from bnt, supercheap etc

also youll have to flick the sump around backwards and mod the pick up to fit the escort x-member. also mod the water system because the thermostat housing sticks out more than the dizzy, Ive got some pics of mine somewhere using the rwd water pump

You may want to have a read of tech reference on this site first to give you a better idea of whats needed to convert a 20v to RWD.

Very cool though that you want to put one in an Escort.
But like the others have said flag the carb idea & stick with the injection. You'll make less power with the carbs, it'll be harder to tune & cost more to set up.

Yes, to a degree (brake master cylinder gets cooked as I recall), but the 20v would be such a lot more fun.

A standard black top will make way more power than a 2L cortina engine. Even If you modify it so its making the same HP the black top will be so much nicer & smoother to drive especially around town

You could alway put the 16v out the ae82 in the escort & then drop the 20v in the ae82. Would be an easier swap coverting the 16v to rwd

Yep thats totally true, we made 144hp on our old pinto motor,
13:1 compression, big cam, twin side drafts, running on avgas + heaps more.

Was a c#@% to drive on the road, blacktop is a much better option.
