Hell, I consider a 7agte a waste of time if chasing under 300hp atw.
Yep, it's more about the torque gained. Then again..... 300 ft-lbs of torque at the threads, in a relatively lightweight fwd street car... what would you do with it ? A double edge sword, eh
I wouldn't try a ca18 or 300# in a fwd rolla, cheaper or not.
not a ca18 thread, but we rwd would be foolish not to weigh the cost vs benefits. (Good to have ez options, eh)
Its a relatively simple swap in a ae86 with potential off the scale, for very reasonable money. *Mod for mod/same hull*, a 4agte is no match for the tq of a ca - a significant difference in a full wt street car. I don't believe in weight reduction/degradeing a car, turning it into a pos just for the sake of acceleration. Hence the 1.8 interest.
I've looked over alot of turbo mazda BP (1.8L) vs the ca18, and with equal mods they are strikingly similar in performance/dyno. I'm just curious to see how a 7agte will stack up against the mazda and nissan 1.8L, seeing as this is a 'hybrid' and not a 'toyota designed combo' that left the factory this way.
Miata 1.6/1.8L rods show up as the weak link when turbocharging their stock motors into the "hairy zone". At a '400hp shootout', one *bone stock* 1.8L dyno'd 399whp and an impressive 380 ft-lbs tq. That miata ran a 10.9sec 1/4... witnessed by many.
Seen ca18 do 396 on stock innards also, with 'less than optimum' tune.
So I can't help but wonder if a street trim 7agte could do 300+hp/tq on 7a rods + ze pistons reliably... that is all.
