Muslim cartoons

Postby fivebob » Sun Feb 05, 2006 10:36 pm

Ok so are they as bad as people make out, is it a case of religion taking itself too seriously, proof that we should be very afraid of upsetting them.

Go to it, but be nice, no racism, no slanging of peoples religious beliefs or I may have to make an example of you

We are right from our point of view, they are right from theirs. There is no right or wrong

Well that was my first thought, but then I thought what if some Islamic papers published cartoons making fun of the WTC terrorist attack, would the western world be so tolerant, or is it a case of double standards.

My personal opinion is neither is in the right, but there is nothing wrong in publishing the cartoons, after all christianity has been the butt of jokes for quite a while now, and while some don't like it they don't do much about it.

I am also of the opinion that the older the religion the less seriously it takes itself, The islamic faith is really the new kid on the block and they haven't had time to come to terms with the fact that not everyone thinks like them :?

Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

These Muslims have taken it way to far. I mean who starts burning down a Danish embassy over a few 'mocking' cartoons in a News paper (plus the events in other countries). It may have offended them but it doesn’t give them the right to cause a huge problem like this - they should have just shook there heads or not bought the newspaper!

Plus I can’t get over the arrogance of the Muslims here! Running through Queen Street protesting about that nonsense... Just ridiculous. Who do they think they are?

All I can say about them is they are dangerous and should be kept well away from.

It just goes past common decency. There are lots of things that we are allowed to say, but you just don’t go there out of courteously.

The Muslim people need to get over it. The newspaper has appoligised, so has Denmark. They are now just looking for reason to fight.
Plus if you read some of the banners they were carrying down Queen St, and the protests in Iran many of them were quite blasphemus towards Western Religions.

Lets not forget how blasphemus us 'westerners' are to other religions:
*Pope Town for instance is against Catholics.
*Depicting Jesus in South Park.
*Every time you say something to the likes of OMG you are actually blaspheming.
I dont see loads of Catholics or Christians marching down Queen St demanding appoligies. Because they deal with it and realise there are more things in this world that are important.

as far as I can see, its a complete over-reaction to the cartoons.
They say that it is against Islam to publish/create a likeness of Mohammad, It would make sense that this only applies to people of Islam.
Like with other things like eating pork and various pig products, its also against Islam, I dont see Massive riots against westerners eating pork.
So it seems its ok for some things but not ok for others, there is no consistency.

cartoons of Mohammad, including one in which he appeared to carry a bomb in his turban.

And by responding with such violence and burning down embassies, it seems that the cartoon may have been a fairly accurate portrayal of the nature of Islam these days....

Yeah, unfortunately by reacting so violently they are perpetuating their own myth so to speak.

The problem isn't religion, it's all the greedy, angry, selfish people hiding behind it. Always been the same and always will be.

My God isn't the kind you have to wind up on sundays

God is fine... but his fanclub? What's up with that

Various people have said those things and I do agree to some extent... you either live a good honest and fair life or you don't.

yes..... over reaction.....
but is it also a warning sign? i find it quite frightening that they can get that upset over it, and we're not just talking one or 2 groups of ppl, we're talking millions world wide.... thats a bit worrying

Yea I've never seen them either...?

I think they are majorly over-reacting. Like what was said above...I'm Christian and you don't see me or other Christians across the globe go on a fierce riot because our Religion has been mocked by said South Park and Pope Town etc.

Yes we don't like it but what's there to do? Not everyone is ever going to see eye to eye on these things so you have to pick your fights. Starting a riot because of silly cartoons is hardly any way to earn any sort of Respect for you and/or your people/Religion.
