Steering Wheel Size...help!

Postby DB4G63 » Fri Feb 10, 2006 8:32 am

Having purchased my already kitted out GTZ 4 weeks ago.
I am finding my steering wheel ( which is an aftermarket momo ) to be far too small, especially for driving around Dunedin.
Its only 300mm in diameter, which makes parallel parking and narrow streets a bit of a pain. It makes the car feel very heavy to control

Most other steering wheels Ive looked at are about 330mm or 350mm which in comparison seem a lot bigger ( I did some measuring )

I just wanted to know what size do you guys use? and what size is your standard wheel size. I like the aftermarket wheel, something bigger would suit me just fine.
Also boss kits are universal fit arent they?

Thank you :D

I had a 300mm Momo wheel on my GTZ for a couple of weeks (was borrowed), I didnt find it too bad, guess comes down to personal preference.

Ive got a 320mm wheen now, the difference is noticeable and I think is the right size; not too big or small. Aftermarket Momo wheels come in either 300, 320 or 350 usually, but I think the factory one I had in my GTZ before was about 370.

And yes most if not all aftermarket wheels will fit onto your boss kit :D

yea, you just have to get the right boss kit to fit your car thats all.

I have a 300mm momo on mine, i find it much easier to drive, i think my stock one was about 370mm.
I had vtax :(

i swapped the 350mm momo in the vr4 for a 300, i hate the light-floaty-remote feel of power steering, so i was stoked that it made the steering require abit more effort.

rather than changing the wheel, maybe try going to the gym?

Sounds probibly about the right size I need.

The problem lies in making small adjustments (such as passing stationary traffic) and making full lock adjustments (ie if your parking or turning ) you cant really use one arm to move the wheel very easily....

I have the boss kit, I was just assuming they are fairly universal.

The previous owner rounded off one of the allan (sp?) key bolts, so Ive got to get a mate to sort that out too.

lol, I use a 400mm at present.
but thats the mini...
in toyotas though aside from standard Ive had 300 and 320mm's
to be honnest, althout it looked cool I didnt like the smaller unit as it was hard when doing driving which required a lot of lock to lock- to small to hold properly imo. Just driving around was fine.
They all had power steering, so were still easy as...
Cant believe im still a member here.
