Taking out an engine, what should I make sure I get...

Hey. Taking the 4AGE out of a car I got... What should I make sure I get with the engine... I figure I should take all the plugs (cut them off the loom), taking the igntion coil, manifolds, injectors/rail/plugs. Is there anything else major I've forgotten?
Or perhaps good things to take with the engine?

depends what you want to do with it. But I would take the engine loom intact and the computer. gearbox maybe.
if putting into a previously 4age powered car, probably don't need much, if not, may need lots of things off doner car. spares are always good too.
If you just want a trophy to sit on the garage floor, I would siuggest getting the cam covers and hanging them on the wall... takes up less space.

I was thinking spares since it's destined as a replacement for my current 4AGE. But in saying that there is the possibility of selling a good chunk of it...

I would take the whole loom, rather than cutting it....

It doesnt take long to get out!

And you might kick yourself later for not getting the whole thing.

I dunno... The loom appears to disappear into the firewall... And frankly I don't really want too much extra crap... If I kick myself... So be it.
Nah. I'll have another look at the loom, but when I was looking it seemed really embedded and attached to heaps of other crap I don't want... Mind you, could be wrong...

Nah its easy to get the loom out, Just 4 plugs to undo (2 into the computer and 2 into the body loom), and it pulls straight through.

you just gotta find the ecu, unplug it there and pull the ECU plugs through the firewall. just a rubber "bung" thing there, use a flathead screwdriver to unseal it...

Are we talking bluetop for bluetop (as an example) or are the two different?

If it was me taking the 4AGE out as a replacement I would be looking to take everything and anyting, as from past experiances its always somethign you think "nah dont need that" then half way through the swap something turns to custard and your stopped in your tracks

Take complete 4AGE, intake etc etc along with loom & ECU and anything else you can grab.

Better to have more than none at all

It's a smallport red top from an AE92. But at this stage I'm only using parts of it to build a nice engine for the AE85.5.

I guess I should salvage the whole loom. Can't be sure, but I think the loom goes through to the ECU and it's inteegrated with the loom in the cabin... I will see I suppose...

The loom is easy to remove now ive seen it, at first i was like thinking the same as yourself how ever

unscrew the cover on the firewall unplug the plug from the ecu tahts designed to fit into that hole and pull / push it out.

Yes, intergrated with plugs, don't be lazy. A full loom will give you more options.

You have my permission to cut body loom wires to get the plug/plugs that connect to the engine loom. BEFORE you do this try to work out what the bodyloom wires do... earth, battery, ignition, starter, aircon etc. So when you stick the engine in your Levin you know pretty much what is what. Label the wires and take pics to make it easier... it's amazing how much you can't remember 6 months later when you come to wire everything up!
Get all the little idle up valves and their associated hoses, wires and plugs as well... it's easy to throw stuff away after you have done your conversion.
Keep the alternator and associated wiring, as sometimes the alternators etc. won't bolt up to different generations of engine.
Often people leave the loom plugged into everything on the engine when they remove it. If you do this make sure the wires don't get caught on anything.
