So Emperor and I painted my 4A-FE!

We got the rocket cover done yesterday and that came up awesome, while I did the manifold cover and the intake plenum today. Manifold cover ended up very nice and smooth (which I'm quite proud of) but I wasn't sure if I could take the top off the intake plenum without f*cking something up so I left it in and just covered everything else up with newspaper. Also the reson why that looks like the worst of the three :D

very nice...

is it clear coated (for that oil residue etc), and is it heat resistant paint? Coz otherwise that exhaust manifold heat shields gonna look mighty ugly in the future.

- I made sure when I bought the paint that it was heat-resistant. Instead of having a clear coat go over the paint though, the paint I used required a ground coat first. What I used was Dupli-color Metalcast Adonized paint (Metallic Blue and the silvery Ground Coat). $16 a can for each at Repco.
Came up quite well, especially with a n00b doing it ^_^

so how'd u do it? tok it all off i guess..degreased? sanded? prim,ed? then sprayed?

- For the rocket cover and the manifold cover:
1) I took them off and cleaned them to get the oil and grease off
2) Used fine sandpaper to get rid of the extra crap and to smooth them out.
3) Used the ground coat paint on them, about 3-4 coats for each
4) After putting final ground coat on, waited half an hour before putting on the blue paint.
5) Blue paint: 3-5 coats, depending on how the paint spreaded out
6) Left for a few hours to let 'em dry ^_^

If you want you can replace your pic with my one, then you can be a 20v :D :D

Na but very good job. I used the same paint on mine and its still shiny after 4 months, and it resists degreasing :D

I've just been talking to people and I think what I might do next is swap the engine out for a 4A-GE. I don't know a lot about the newer 4A-GEs so I was wondering if people could give me recommendations, prices, what I'd need to change/remove etc. So far I've been told to go for a 20v Blacktop or Silvertop and that I wouldn't have to change anything. It'll be going into my '92 GL Corolla (rounded body type)

Any info would be appreciated :D
