need brakeing power in 20valve aw11 plus not idealing proper

as my topic name states i need to upgrade my brakes and im looking for bang for buck (i have access to lots of 2nd hand car parts so idea useing 2nd hand parts i will be all over like a fat chick on kfc) , next the 20 vlave will ideal out some times but most of the time sits on 500 rpm but after i give it a fair bit of gas it will just die so dont know whats up, any advice on any of the two issuses would be greatly apperated

you probably have an air leak at your intake manifold or piping between the airflow meter to the air box. Or theres a hose left off somewhere.
