This is quite true ... however you'd be 2720cc, and in most cases would be out there trying to beat Evo's and Sti's (usually the class break is simply 2000cc +)

I've generally found that this is a comment made by 1600cc competitors whinging about other classes getting more points.
The truth is that the winners of the 2000cc class are usually top competitors who would win in any class.
The fact that this class occasionally has less entrants really only serves to assist the lower place getters in championship points gathering.
The ease with which you may win any class comes down solely to your level of preparation and your ability behind the wheel.

I think the 1600 class is much more fun as it's within a lot of people's budgets... and therefore makes for more competitive racing... the more people with FWD 1600s, the more events with closeish racing/times I say.

One thing to think about is weather you want to cert or not. It is possible to build a cheap car without requiring the cert, and if you do want items that require a cert you should do them all at the same time to save money... planning for the win :)

hey santa, i had 2.5 on my blacktop and found it to be quite good, however if i was doing it all again i would most likley go 2,1/4, keep the factory headers and change the pipe between the headers and were the cat would normally go, i would also make up a few different length secondarys and have a fiddle to see what worked best. oh yeh, try and find some 15x7 inch rims :D

i know where some are

sorry for the Hijack.. but im in auckland. and a student. and wanting to get into a bit of the fun stuff. you all talk of club cars? what does this entail.. in terms of requirements... roll cages etc?

its like this.ive built myself a car and was wondering what type of motorsport could i get involved with.

daihatsu mira with 96 mira tr-xx conversion so the specs are as follows
4cyl 650cc dohc 16v intercooled turbo. factory 7psi
5spd LSD close ratio box.. engine redline is around 8500rpm

bolted entire subframe from new car into old one so :
factory strut brace which ive slotted to make it adjustable
thicker front struts/heavier springs over standard
front discs with twin piston calipers
front sway/stabliser bar.

K&N filter, 1.75inch straight thru exhaust with no muffler and one 18inch reso.

not looking to spend anything on cages etc. are tehre any gravel sprints or something i could get into?

That would make an awesome little Motorkhana vehicle

Basically as long as it is up to WOF standard (which doesn't mean it needs to have an actual WOF) you can do any kind of event short of Rallies, Rallysprints and Circuit Racing. That basically means you can do Motorkhanas/Autocrosses (low speed in a paddock, great fun) or Hillclimbs/Bentsprints (higher speed on closed roads). To do Hillclimbs etc you'll just need to drop in a 0.9kg fire extinguisher and wear cotton overalls and a helmet, and purchase a ClubSport licence from Motorsport NZ (no test to sit, just pay your money).

The closest car club to you will be Hibiscus Coast Motorsport Club which, as luck has it, happens to be the club I'm on the committee of :) If you want some info on the club PM me, or just come along to our clay Hillclimb this weekend at Bayers Farm north of Silverdale (info at http://www.hcmc.org.nz/) and we'll strap you into a couple of cars for rides.

And to bring the post back on-topic... sounds like a nice set up you'll have there Santa - if I ever come down your way I'll have to line my AE92 redtop against your blacktop at a Hillclimb or something.
We know that four-wheel drive doesn't work in a racing car, and I proved to myself that it doesn't work very well for rallycross. I'm absolutely convinced that it has no future in rallying, either, even if the regulations allowed it. - Roger Clark (rallying legend), circa 1976

This is slightly off topic, but this group would include ANY toyota with a 3S-GE correct? as it is actually 1998cc. as in Celicas, caldina TZ-G/GT, MR2...etc. Ever thought of putting a 3S-GE into the AE92?
