driving without bonnet - Illegal?

Postby levin_it_large » Thu Feb 16, 2006 11:33 am

I checked out the LTSA website but couldnt find anything.

I will be travelling to Hamilton to pick up this new bonnet and have nowhere to put the old one once the new one is put on... any other way of doing it... Pick up is the only possible way... so what are the legalities of doing this?

How bad is it for the engine... if at all, travelling at high speed (100k's) with no bonnet

thanks for any help :D

i think you can be done for having dangerous fittings onn your car or something...IE if you hit a person on the road, and they go thou the engine insted of hittin the bonet, it would be very painful for them..

T buckets do it!! but I don't think its legal if your car is "supposed" to have one.

Go get a warrant without a bonnet on, they'll fail you. Then drive down to hams to pick up the other bonnet, if you get pulled over, hand the cop the slip and tell him you are going to pick up the parts (aka bonnet)

That way, you can't be done, as your allowed to drive the car if your getting the problem fixed :D!

No bonnet is only legal if the car is certified for no (or removeable) bonnet.

And thats not likely to be easy to get, genrally its deemed un safe and frowned upon.

If you hit a person with a bonnet therell come off better condition that with no bonnet.. Plus whats the need? everyone to show off there shiney Vtek badge :P

Yall ever driven without a bonnet, it changes the steering characteristics drastically depending on the vehicle cause of the redused weight on the front steering and suspension. Not a good idea at 100kph on bumpy country roads...!!! :(

if you put it up against a wall then kick it in the middle they generally fold pretty easy, might be enough to fit it into your car?????

+ there's the added bonus of it being fun :D

MrGTZ, i'd believe you about it changing the steering characteristics but i doubt very much its to do with weight. would be more because of airflow over the car being interrupted in a pretty serious way, especially at 100 kmh

cheers

Well... yes and no, they would argue the toss over that one. If they deem the vehicle to be too unsafe, regardless of inspection or not, they can say no you can't drive it. Bastards.
