It's not necessarily a high-performance vehicle, but a high-risk vehicle. Especially for theft, and when you start modifying a car.. it becomes even more of a target for theft. :(

Yeah i guess... but still, they could call it something different, so when ever an insurance company says 'Sorry, we cant insure you because your under 25 and you drive a high performance vehicle' i dont have a reason to laugh at them.

I'm 17 with a ST185 GT Four, I'm insured with state insurance (third party, but its soon to be third party with theft and fire, as soon as i get an alarm). And it costs about $220 a year.

Just interested to know :)

There was a thread on the NZPC forums a while ago about towes insurance brokers. I'm too lazy to search for the thread but I'd expect that you'd find a number for them in the white pages.

I haven't dealt with them myself but there were a few people on there saying that they seemed to be brokering some good deals, and they apparently specialise in performance car insurance.

Also only like $50-80 diff if its a turboed car as opposed to non-turbo (i.e. Celica GTR vs Celica GT4).

NAC seems to charge very high premiums no matter what car your driving....
if you were going to insure a GTR Celica it would have been better to try a mainstream insurance company....
with NAC it seems you are better to buy a turbo car anyway...

my Galant was only costing me $35 a month with AMI 2.0 litre manual, they arent too concerned about your average 2.0 litre car.

GT-Fours are a different story however...a friend of mine pays through the nose just to insure and fuel one of these beasties.... it spends a lot of time NOT moving....

Yeah I'm really starting to feel the pinch on my pocket..... these cars (GT4) are very thirsty. And as for NAC charging high premiums... well they do specalise in high risk, so with high risk goes high premiums.

Just to drag this up again, i was interested in buying a 20V marino. I sent away via internet for a quote throu AMI, after reciving an email saying it could be between 3-4 days i rung insted, I got a very nice woman on the phone that said they could do 3rd part fire theft and windscreen cover for $202.20p/a with $1000 excess. I have just recived the internet quote saying that they would not be willing to insure me :? Just goes to show how inconsistant they really are.

they said i can either tell them and stay with the 1252 per yr but if anything happen they will only pay for the car at the market value and not the parts ~ the other is u can tell them ur mod and u go get ur car valudate ~ at some place and than they will cover ur car at the value they valudated ~ and i gave them an example say my car is 11000 insureed and i throw another 10G in the car they said i should pay around 14-1500 a yr ~ which is not bad ~

I pay an arm and a leg, $89/month / $1000 excess roughly (3rd party only). I'm almost 20, had my full license for over 2 years, NO driving fines/convictions and all I drive is a Pulsar gti 5 door (no mods)?

I'm with State and have the car fully insured plus $55k of contents for $64 per month with a $1k voluntary excess and windscreen extension and road side assist.

I've had my windscreen replaced because of stone chips in November and they came out recently and jumpstarted me when my battery went flat while we were moving.
