Suburu knock sensor

Postby jiranz5 » Thu Feb 16, 2006 9:13 am

My dad owns a 1992 Suburu Legacy GT with something like 350,000kms on the clock. Recently the ignition has started being retarded and upon moving the knock sensor to a new location has reduced the problem. Does anyone know how to fix this problem or even bypass the knock sensor? Removing the knock sensor enirely doesn't work. Also he is running a twin WRX chipset system (however that works).

Its not ticking tappets causing the problem is it?

Or is the thing actually knocking maybe?

The knock sensor often gets very dirty, if you clean it up it will probably be alot better.

I replace alot of them after melting, but we use second hand ones and they're still alright

The early 90s subarus had a weird thing where they would sense the sloshing noise as knock if you put too thin of an oil in them(from memory 5 instead of 10 minimum), not sure if thats what you mean, but you never know.
