I would prefer to throw them both in the ocean. :P

5SFE out of the two, but a 3sg(t)e is a much better choice. 8)

5sfe gets my vote - loads (in a relative sense) of torque down low, good for pushing our camry wagon around town and on longer drives... runs out of breath above about 5300rpm.
If this is a choice for your curren - sort out a 3sge. Same effort to put it in, but much more rewarding!

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Another internet rumour and AFAIK totally incorrect.

Of course the GTE head will fit, go and have a look on mr2oc.com they've got a thread the details all you need to do to fit a G(T)E head on a 5S-FE block

problem with the 5s-fe block with a 3sgte head is that some have reportedly the 5s rods/bolts can't handle the revs of a 3sgte (5s redline = 6,000rpm, 3sgte redline = 7,200). Also the valve cut outs in the 5s-fe pistons might not match the 3sgte valves and you may end up with an interference engine.

Basically unless you're planning on a big power engine build, including a fully built bottom end, worked head, big turbo, cams, ecu etc, then there probably isn't much point in going to the 5s-fe block.

well then I don't believe you :P

to be honest I don't see why the rod bolts would be any lower quality than the 3sgte either, but I would certainly think you'd want to get some different pistons, or just grind the 5s ones down with an angle grinder to suit the valves :D
