Temp gauge sender

Postby slighty_sykotic » Thu Feb 16, 2006 8:28 am

Hi,

Can someone tell me which water temp sender is the one for the stock temp gauge?

I have a brown one with two wires, a green one with two wires, a green one with one wire and one with a metal plate sticking out of it.

Its a gze in a 20v body.

The one with the plate sticking out seems to be a switch, it stays cold for ages, then suddenly goes straight to hot.

The two with the hot wires I doubt would be them, and the one with the single wire (green plug) doesnt do anything... It just sits on cold.

Any help would be good.

Should probably be the smallist one coming out of the engine head. I know its on the left by the air filter on ae111. I actually think it may be the same on the others as well.

Its the single wire one

The brown one is cold start switch and green one is temp sensor for the ecu, which are both located on that water fitting on the g/box side of the head.

I would unplug it if it worked :P

Hmm, that plug doesnt do anything, I think my sender might be shot then.

Any way to test them? Or if it doesnt work its dead style of thing?

if it is for GZE, then it is on the cambelt side/supercharger side of the engine.
I got some water pipes of AE101 GZE lying arround, with this sensor on them.

I think I have a bit of confusion.

I have a gze motor, with 20v pipes (and thermostat housing), and an NA 16 head (with the little water outlet thing with the ecu temp and the other one with the single wire).

If I connect my stock 20v ae101 gauge to the one on the cambelt side of the motor. The gauge doesn't behave... It stays cold for ages, and then suddenly starts to rise, and it keeps rising up into the H. And I know the motor is not overheating, esp that quick. And I have got rid of all the air locks.

Maybe the single wire (on the side of the head, green plug) is just dead. Anyone know what the resistance is meant to be at certain tempertures?

i don't know if this is applicable to all cars, but this is what I done with my ke35.

if you want to test if your gauge is stuffed, or exactly what wire goes to your gauge just touch it on the body to earth it out while someone watches your gauge. when you earth the wire out the gauge should start rising up.

don't earth it out for too long though as it buggers something I think (can't remember what).

if your gauge moves when you earth one of the wires out then thats the wire that runs to your gauge. if your gauge doesn't move on any of the wires, its either stuffed or none of the plugs are correct!

goodluck

I know which wire is the gauge (grounded it to find that).

What I don't know is what sender to connect it to...
