wheel, scraping noise

Postby anthrax2 » Mon Feb 20, 2006 11:45 am

Hey, when i'm driving around in my celica..... an extremely annoying scraping sound comes from the back right wheel. I heard it was something to do with the brakes, but I dont know anything about it or how to fix it. Basically it makes the noise:-
When I angle/turn the car to the left (sometimes as I am going straight, usually goes away while I am turning right.)
As I reverse especially
Also, when the sound is being made, if I put my foot on the brake it usually goes away - untill I take my foot off the brake.
Hope that made sense ~

sounds like it could be brake pads - take you wheel off and check how much meat is left on them

bent backing plate?
if you have mags with spokes, just use big screwdriver to push it...

Could be a stone trapped somewhere around the brake, depending on if its a drum or a disk, and could be worn pads... Find a friend who knows a lil about brakes (Dont needa know much at all) and give him/her 2 beers to figure it out, 30 min job max...

YEA there are wear tabs on break pads asuming it has disk breaks on the rear when they get low on meat the tab touches the breaking surface making a noise so the driver gets worried and takes it to a shop

orr a stone has found its way under a pad or somewhere between the caliper and teh disk

orrrrrr the backing plates touching easy as taking the wheel off looking around the tin plate behind the disk rotor and bending it away
