Postby aesc » Tue Feb 21, 2006 10:05 am

As topic, does anyone know what these generally seem to go for?

Thanks

Typically these go on EBay for around $US150-200, for one in NZ that would translate to $250-350.

Bugger, missed one that went for $80US today, that'll teach me. I thought they only fetched around the $150NZ mark.

Cheers for your replies but the oportunity has passed

because they are huge, well about 90mm,
from memory an evo one is 60mm, a 4age is around 55mm a 1uzfe is 70mm

the only other size this big is an aftermarket, a cheap hks copy is around $490.

pretty much every 2 Litre DOHC 4 or 6 weather is be turbo or not, runs a 60MM throttle body. Most run of the mill 1.6's run a 50mm, some of the higher spec ones run 55mm. 2JZGE's run 60m TB also. Series 4/5 RX7's run tripple 45's, S6's run single 45 & a pair of 50mm............. its all about CFM

Waking a post from the dead!

What's the value of these at the moment? I have seen a few of these on Trade Me lately and they're $250-300 so still about the same price when this thread was initially posted? (7 or 8 years ago!?)

Are there any quality alternatives that are available? Who is the better supplier of these?

Cheers.

They tend to sell for $100-$150 USD on ebay, and car forums stateside.

I recently bought one for my FFIM and spent alot of time removing all the BS gubbins they have attached to them, to try and make it look slightly less fugly in my engine bay.

Just make sure that you get one with the throttle linkage cam on it, otherwise low throttle input will be painful

Cool, thanks for the input.

Is it better to go used genuine Nissan or aftermarket?

Had a look on eBay and only found new (what look like) Chinese ones.

This one looks good but doesn't have the can linkage you mentioned: http://bit.ly/K8dkiu

Im have no knowledge of that one you linked, but I have to admit I am a fan of OEM TB's over Chinese aftermarket TB's, as there is no shortage of sob stories from people who have bought them, only to find they get sticky after they heat up enough, as the various metals used for the butterfly/shaft etc expand at different rates, and can bind up.

You dont want to find this out at the end of the back straight at 230kph, hence why I put my trust in OEM items that have undergone a proper QC check.

The cam linkage I was referring to, is fitted to the Nissan Q45 TB, but I have never seen one on an aftermarket TB, so I expect they would have fairly difficult/doughy low throttle inputs.

What is the reason you are wanting to go with a larger TB, too?

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. It would be good to know of reputable aftermarket brands though. $300 for a used part is $300 towards a new one.
Wonder how much new from Nissan?

I now have the GReddy Manifold and it's the Q45 flange.

I hear you on not spending twice, but TBH, the oem throttle body, while used, will still easily have decades of use left in it. The jury is still out on all the aftermarket TB's at this time, though.

The FFIM I am currently fitting to my car came with a Q45 flange too, so I ended up going that route, as my 2JZ-GE TB is even more HUGE/UGLY than the Nissan item lol, not to mention the butterfly opens in the wrong direction so I would have had to run the cable to the front, then along the front frame then back towards the TB.

There are normally a few Q45s on the US Supra forum FS sub-forum, so if I see one on there, I will give you the heads up, just incase you decide you want one.

If you do decide to go aftermarket, the benefit of that is they typically are supplied with a separate flange to weld to the manifold, so you would then have the option of going down to a more sensible diameter TB. Say 70mm or 75mm etc.

That will be awesome, thanks.

I go through phases where i look on there a lot and then forget about the forums for a month or two

I have found a few on ebay which i am keeping a eye on.

Cheers!
