AE92 Cutting in and out :: ERROR CODE!

Postby Zyros » Fri Feb 24, 2006 1:15 pm

Hey all, as posted...

My corolla, when warmed up cuts in and out when driving, each time it cuts in and out the check engine lights comes on then goes away as it cuts back in.. (its the same as if it was missing, except its not missing )

$900 debt from electrical / mechanical fee's for them to replace useless crap eg - dizzy, fuel filter, leads, coil, etc etc etc.

So, i done a diagnosis check..

It flashes once.. follow by 3 in a row after a few second break, im guessing this is 13 or 31..

---
13 RPM Signal
Diagnosis

* No "NE" signal to ECU when engine speed is about 1,000 RPM.

Trouble Area

* Distributor, or CPS, circuit
* Distributor or CPS
* ECU

--
31 Air Flow Meter Signal
Diagnosis

* (7M-GE) Open circuit in VC signal or short circuit between VS and E2 when idle contacts are closed.
* (7M-GTE) Open or short circuit in air flow meter signal.

Trouble Area

* Air flow meter circuit
* Air flow meter
* ECU

---

What do both of these mean and what should i check?? Is it 31 or 13 :P remembering it flashes Once first, then followed by 3 flashes after.

Thanks, i just need help clearing up what error it is and what it means i should do.

you have an afm?...I'd assume you have map.
go for 13, rpm signal. I'd start by unplugging the dizzy plug and spraying with crc, resetting codes and trying that. it may be all gunged up.
thats the least troubling thing it may be...

I have a MAP.

What dizzy plug was that??

Ive had the Dizzy replaced, New fuel filter, New sparkplugs which have suddenly gone black / redish all of a sudden!??!?, New Dizzy cap, New HT leads, New fuel filter, New coil.

Have swapped the ignition, and MAP sensor with a similar model. Still doesnt go.

You car is map. hmmmmm.

That means your fault codes should be 1 to 11 not 12 and on as they are AFM codes.

Maybe you have code 1 and code 3.
Unfortunatly I dont have my list of the map codes here.

Also what brand are the plugs that you fitted as the only one's i've seen go that colour are champion ones which I recommend you never use in a japanese DOHC.

for the 1-11 codes- 1 means normal, 3 is ignition signal

Zyros- I meant just the plug that goes into the dizzy, but when I said that I was not reading it that you had done the things already.
going by what you have done, assuming all the wires etc are ok, on either a code 13 or a code 3, the next thing to look at imo would be trying another ecu...dont see the 16v afm ecu's around as much as the map ones though.
before you buy one, see if you can borrow one.

Get your head together before you start spending more money. Looks like you've spent a lot already and it would be a shame to waste more :?

It could be your ECU.

I just so happen to have a spare lying around, if you bring your car over we can test it out.

PM me if your interested.
