Water pump

Postby GT4 20 » Sun Feb 26, 2006 10:04 am

Where's the best place to look for a 12v water pump? Looking for something with a bit more grunt than a windscreen washer pump, but not as hefty as a WAI one for example.
Cheers

I was looking for W/I pump, wich has similar volume to washer pump, but much higher pressure, I went through different pump places, most of them did high volume pumps, basically it turned out very uneconomical so I gave up...

High volume, low pressure would be ideal for what I'm planning.

Inline would be preferable.

I've known a few people to use fuel pumps, but it I've heard they'll probably rust. I'm guessing you want it for water injection? Or maybe intercooler sprayers?

Must be water sprayer as you need a High Pressure one to get a fine enough mist for injection.

I need it to keep a surge tank for the W.I. topped up. I have a spare ERL pump but it seems a bit OTT.

how much flow is it going to need?

My water injection flows about 250cc/min when injecting,
which is only when above 8psi boost.

At least 250cc/min would be ideal. Doesn't need to be high pressure, just a good steady flow.

ah I thought you wanted high pressure low volume, silly me.

Have you looked at small bilge pumps for boats? even a Subaru legacy w/a pump could work quite well, I should have a picture of one, compared to a gt4rc/st205 pump here....

Sorry no. You would have to offer an 'unreasonable' price for me to part with it.

Was looking at small bilge pumps last night on the net. Scooby pump is also an option.
