Info about Fault codes.

Postby ollieboy » Fri Mar 03, 2006 12:13 am

Well my cars been funny for a long time and I'm running out of Ideas but have been reading about people diagnosing problems with Fault Codes.

So I was thinking and want to know how people do it. Would the engine check light come on if I need to check the codes or could it need checking and the engine light isn't on? Can I just take the car to my local garage and get them to check? Is the equipment needed pretty basic? Can I even do it myself?

Cheers

You could even do a search on here or on google. That would be a good start.

I searched on here but I only found people asking what fault codes meant.

I will have a look in the FAQ section.

Yeah I looked in the Faq section but only found info on what error codes mean. I want to know what is involved so I know whether the local garage could do it (theyre not that advanced you see) or whether I could even do it myself.

You can do it yourself. Get a paperclip and bridge terminals E1 and TE1 in the diagnostic box. Count the flashes of the engine light on the dash
