I have a nagging feeling my MR2 keys may have gone to the dump

I'm not worried about getting the car started - but is there a way for me to break / disable the steering lock so I can tow the car? Its moving to a new home and I wont have time to go hunting round the wreckers for a complete set of locks + key before the cars getting shifted!

if you have a pipe wrench you can break the entire ignition barrel off and that will get rid of the steering lock (and you can unscrew the switch from the back and start it with a screwdriver)

I will have a steering column/ignition barrel and hopefully some keys shortly if needed also.

The key number is stamped on the lock barrel in the passengers door. Give that number to a Toyota dealer and they can cut you a new one

You'll find that a lot of locksmiths can also do this.

Alternativly, you can give Toyota your chassis code and they should be able to give you the keycode (If you can't find it on the barrel.)

Or the locksmith down Sandyford Street. They will only charge around $7 a key....god knows how much the stealership would charge
