20 V silvertop + Automatic Vs Manual

Postby Zyros » Wed Mar 01, 2006 9:57 pm

Hey, im about to buy a silvertop for $300.

It has 130,000 KM on the clock, as my old redtop has 262,000.

He said its from an Automatic though, just after i said i would take it but it should be fine because all i have to do is put the flywheel over to the new one.

But it got me thinking..
Would an auto silvertop be different to a manual.
Would the ECU be different, the Loom?

Thanks.. i need to know if the loom / ecu in an auto is the same as a manual

The auto one only revs to 7800, where as i think the manual one revs to 8000.

But dont quote me on this :D

afaik both manual and auto redline a 7800rpm. manual computer is different, the "L" plug is a lot smaller. All it means is you need to replace it with a 12 pin ecu plug from a 90's corona or camry to get an auto loom to mate to a manual computer

hope this helps

the auto engine will have the better t/bs whereas than early manual 20vs.
you can tell by the pivots on the t/b, one = good 2 = not so good

Thanks for the help..

Ill use the auto ECU for now, but in future if i were to get the manual ecu.. just cut the plug off the old loom from my ae92 redtop and wire that up to the auto loom (cutting that plug off to) and it should fit into the manual ECU?

Now all i need to know.. gearbox

Will the wires from the auto loom hook up to the gearbox correctly, what needs to be done to make it work?

Anything else the auto loom needs to be modied in to suit a manual tranmission?
