I can see why they need to do it - the thing that bothers me is:

They say its for statistics only, yet they ask you loads of personal questions including your name, phone number and address - how is that of any relevance? Are they going to release stats like: 100% of people who live in the south island have an 03 at the start of thier telephone number? - Pointless

I think I read on one point on it, that if you have a disability they may want to contact you regarding a disabillity survey...or something along those lines.

Filled mine out tuesday night, only took 5 or so minutes :)
Our German student (hot and a gurl btw  ) found it quite weird that we had to do a census here in lil ol NZ, but I think its a bitching idea. Theres no conspiracy behind it, its not like our MPs sit around a round table snickering because the know just how many cripples there are out there, or how much some lame student from Upper Hutt earns. Quite simply NZ is far too boring for something like that to happen :P

However, our census forms still havnt been picked up...

They ask for your name and address so they can match all the occupants of that dwelling (because some of them were at different places on Census night)

The reason they wanted it done on Tuesday night and not any other night is they basically want a picture of the country at a particular point of time. If they said to fill in the form anytime within 1-2 week period, it wouldn't make the results accurate (as some people will be in/out of the country certain days)

If you were paranoid about them knowing your details, you only had to really full in about 5 questions on the front page. You could have even put a fake name! They only want the numbers for statistical analysis.

If you don't do it, they will try to track you down :P
