Has anyone altered any out of limits backlash in either a rear diff, Gearbox transfer case or 'ring gear & pinion' etc? Done by adding or subtracting pinion shimming?
Im curious to know, Not such a straight forward exercise in a four wheel drive I would imagine??
If the backlash was corrected in the transfer case by 'mucking' with shimming is it possible that simply you have now altered when the loading takes effect ?
ie the Rear wheels may in fact now carry far more drive loading than the Front wheels - in a four wheel drive application - because you have only adjusted one of the ring gear & pinion setups?
ie before the setup had been touched everything could be assumed to have worn equally therefore the loading on front & rear drivetrain could be assumed to be uniform...?
Confused? - great me too.
Input any one?
