Toyota Corolla RUNX information please?

Postby regamaster » Fri Mar 10, 2006 8:31 pm

hey all,

A friend of mine has just mentioned that he is looking at purchasing a 01' Corolla Runx? not sure if it is RUNX or RUN-X or whatever, if someone can clarify that also please? Just wanting some information on them or opinions? Are they potential performance cars?

as much info as I can get would be great,

Cheers

Well yeah the 1zzfe model is a nanna car (I own one). It goes pretty well in 1st, 2nd and 3rd but the rest is a bit ho hum.

I'm pretty sure the JDM Runx has a 2zzge? (our sportivo model which isn't on sale anymore). That's the 6 speed VVTL-i engine from the current Celica, goes alright (had that model Celica at one stage also).

Are they performance cars? No.
Definitely look elsewhere if you want that sort of car, you would have to spend way too much to get it doing anything less than 14's (the 2zzge model does about a 15s 1/4 mile, stock).
Aaah no more Corolla..

I'm not sure which model it is, but one of them has a power to weight nearly identical to the caldina GT-T. Coupled with a 6-speed box and you are looking at a very quick little car.

Easily faster than your average 20v. I would guess a good driver would be looking at high 14s in standard trim.

I would go so far as to say they're the next FX-GT.

The 2zzge powered RUNX (same as the Aussie Sportivo) is a quick wee car. And there's a range of TRD goodies that make it even quicker without spending a fortune.

But most RUNX's are 1500cc powered and others have the 1ZZFE engine.

Isn't there one of these available on Gran Turismo 4? Have a test drive of that one

Barryogen has one here in Dunedin and it goes pretty well comparing to a caldina GT4 and a GZE aw11

Have one as a road car , yep go pretty well with 140kw, bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing. And yeah seam to have very small pictures of 20valves painted on the rear vision mirrors.

Does anyone know what they do on the quarter? 140 kw in a 1220kg car compared to 120 in a 1060kg car has them pretty even..

although I've seen the runx weight listed as 1160kg which would have it ahead on power to weight by a wee bit.

Toyota over estimate the power figures, most stock silvertops ive seen on the dyno make around 75-80kw atw max depending on what dyno theyre on, which would leave it well short of 123kw at the fly, which is whats stated.

Yeah but most silvertops have been thrashed, have a pod filter sucking in warm air and an exhaust the size of Nam. My 5afe has beaten a friends silvertop 4age on a dyno.

Regardless of what rumours are around the blacktop is a good engine and with minimal mods does around a 15sec 1/4 in a bzg/r chassis.
It also compared well to a 323 running 10lbs (not so well on 18lbs though).

So what does a runx ar allex do on the quarter? That is where the only valid comparison can be made as a bzr should go around a circuit more quickly.

(I'm probably wrong though.. I haven't driven a runx)

1/4 miles is for pussys! :P

you need corners to test a car!
with equal drivers id say the 2zzge RunX would be pretty safe against an ae111/ae101. certainly eats a 20v for power

Good point Warwick, but what about an ae86 especially a yellow one ???
