Please help identify this thing

Hi,

Got a problem with my car...Its leaking oil (a fair bit, like a almost consistant drop) from between the gearbox and the block. (new motor, compelete rebuild with new seals, internals, etc)

Now, on the following image:



What is the bung circled in red? Is it oil gallery or water jacket....

I think it's oil, and I hope like hell its oil, because then I would guess thats my leaky point... If not then that leaves the rear main seal..


And the reason im asking is I havn't got time to rip the gearbox off in the next couple of days, and I would like to put my mind to rest about it

Thats into the oil gallery if that was not in there you would not have any oil pressure

Use loctite on thread to secure

if that bung is and oil gallery it will leak if you have removed it and not resealed it, thread tape would be the go.

Maybe the wrong rear main? incorrect installation?

I would have a guess at your rear main seal has fallen out. I've seen it a couple of times

Ok, thats good that its a oil gallery, im 99% sure it isnt my rear main seal.... I hope.

Will know tonight or tomorrow hopefully when I have time to have the box off.

Yup, was that gallery. Didn't even have any thread tape on it.. Must of missed that one when I got it back from the acid dip...

Now to put the god dam gearbox back on....
