even if the cage followed MSNZ details and the car was used twice for MSNZ permitted events?

Yep.

Then it wouldn't be a drag car :)

please elaborate.

there is no reason why a fully adjustable drag car couldn't go around corners with the right tyres on the other hand, there's plenty of circuit cars that would get close to 10's on a prepared track. and to get really extreme, i have seen local hillclimb specials that were road legal, that could bust some fast times on gravel , possibly well under 15s

What is the fastest time you can pull on a drag strip before you need a cage?

i believe once u enter 'PRO IMPORT' u are required to have a full cage. and AFAIK thats once your car is capable of running sub 10 second 1/4 mile times and is a purpose built drag car.

im going through the notions at the moment, building a drag car is.. well involved. the car has a full cage. a half cage is certifiable. a full cage needs to be homolgated. also to b used on the road, as mentioned you must b a member of a NZ registered motorsport club and hold an authority card and a log book. to keep the authority card active u have to attend 2 events per year, which are recorded in the log book by the event officials. every year u are requested to return your log book for reactivation of your authority card. u present the authority card wen u go for a wof and viola. AFAIK the authority card covers all interior fittments .. fuel cells, race seats, harness', cage etc. certification covers the other area ie engine mounts, diff mods blah blah.

relevance being, it IS possible to have a street legal car with a full cage and semi- tubbing etc. a friend of mine has a chev nova with a big block 489, and tubbs and roll bars that he drives to shows all the time.

and the supra 2JZGTE is capable of quite big numbers on stock bottom end... first example:

The Big Stick Supra is primed to beat back the bullies anywhere, any time. Amazingly, this power generation, which equates to about 805 hp at the flywheel, is realized with stock internals on 100-octane Unocal pump gas.

ok so i searched for more, i kno iv seen more but all i get wen i search is forum results with their "yah im in america with far to much money and my 700hp street legal supra just isnt enuf.." lol

but for the record.. lets all agree this ute will never happen.

last time I checked the threshhold for pro classes and requiring a cage was 10.99 or faster, although you can choose to enter pro classes if you're running slower, in order to run slicks etc, in which case you will still need a cage

I just can't think of many evos that could do 10s and still work as track cars.

I have read thru most of this thread, and skipped some of ths crap in it.

if someone is serious about building a BIG DADDY 2JZ, I have done the homework as I have been looking into a 2JZ for a speedway super saloon. If you hunt the net and look in the right places. $32K will have you a 'bullet proof' 1500+ HP capable set up, complete with efi, turbo's, manifolds, mad as engine which will handle 10000rpm, 40+psi boost and has been proven to run mid 8's in a 'street' supra. You can buy a prepped head and prepped bottom end 'off the shelf' in the US.

dollar per HP wise, I believe the only thing that comes close to the rewards a 2JZ will produce is a 20B.

mad as engine which will handle 10000rpm

for a 2j to pull those numbers is insane,

im assuming that the kit uses the JUN stroker kit to help make that sort of power.

Ummm...yea I want to know as well. Where exactly does the 10 000rpm figures come from? :?

Even with a big stroker kit etc I have my doubts about the 2JZ revving out to 10K rpm and still be within it's powerband...

I think what Leon means is if it has a MSNZ authority card and runs two events a year then its a race/rally car that gets run on the strip rahther than a drag car that gets used for race/rally.... MSNZ is the opposite, you can run their cage or no cage (depending on level of event) with no allowances for certified half cages or drag approved cages.

Half cage also needs to be homologated if you want to use it at MSNZ events.

Authority Card covers precisely the following list, and nothing else:
Full Harness Safety Belts
Removal of air bag / pretensioning seatbelts (Manufacturers Occupant Protection System - MOPS)
Roll Protection Structure
Competition Seats (where FIA homologated only)
Hydraulic Handbrake
Plastic Glazing (Lexan MR10, or Cyrolon AR2 only)

The above list being features that you would only ever install on a race / rally / club car.

Everything else is LVVTA or in the warrant guide, or simply not legal :)

MSNZ cage regulations are taken almost verbatim from the FIA (World governing body of all motor sport) international guidelines found in Appendix J at www.fia.com So I suspect there isn't much interest in allowing lower spec cages to be used in competition, as that would mean that NZ would seriously have its arse on the line should somebody have a big fatal encounter with a tree on a rally while running a cage that wouldn't be acceptable anywhere else in the world. Injury crashes are reported to the FIA, so don't think that we exist in isolation down here in deep dark Southern hemisphere, there are international guidelines that need to be followed.

Either you will need to have to have that marked on the glazing, or you would need to talk to the installer / previous owner about getting reciepts for the plastic
