Quick cert question

Postby Emperor » Thu Mar 16, 2006 6:21 pm

Cars booked in for a cert next wedensday for my coilovers, is it possible to get spacers added to the cert plate even though I don't have them?
Say I was buying spacers next month?

Nazis: Yes I have searched, didnt find anything covering this particular question

It would be a brave certifier who put their name on something they hadn't checked

i highly doubt any certifier would do that, but they shouldn't have a problem if you booked it in for a different date...

only way of doing that is to borrow some to use to get the cert
either way it will be dodgy

As everyone else has said, if its not on the car, theoretically they can't cert it. Having said that there are definitely dodgy certifiers who will do it, one in Wellington has a bad habit of certing cars he hasn't even seen. 8O

does anyone know if cert plates can be "modified" or added to? for example my car is certified for the engine, gearbox, diff and lowering but i may putting adaptors on for my mags. would that incur another $400 fee and a full cert check? or can they check the adaptors then get new cert plates made up seeing as everything else is currently certified?

i know you can't get a cert cheaper just because its "only for the seats" etc, but what is the situation when everything else is already certed?

No luck sorry, have to pay the full cert fee. A big chunk of it is actually the cost of the plate and a levy for administration of the LVV system.

damn, thats what I thought  hopefully I can get away with replacing the struts so I don't need adaptors and still pass wofs. apparently you don't need a cert if the struts bolt straight on anyway.

"Apparently" you do need cert if you change the struts, whether it will be picked up is a different matter. Change the dimensions of the wheels and you need to re-cert as well.
