Thanks for the concern vvega.

FYI, I'm not building a full time rally car or a track car. This is for everyday driving and maybe the occasional visit top the track. As the car isn't going to be driven 'balls out' all the time, then I see no reason why cooling will be an issue. After a couple of spirited runs with plenty of WOT, the engine temp gauge hasn't budget at all on the road. And as this will be how the car is druiven 99% of the time, it obviously isn't an issue as I said.

I do respect most of your comments, but do you really need to lower the tone of what has the potential to be an interesting debate? You're accusing me of being stupid but you're not really helping your cause with such accusations. If you can't contunue this thread without lowering it to a slanging match, then I'd rather not hear your comments full stop. I can take constructive and factual criticism. But "no brainer comments" aren't helpful

one thing iv noticed, and i put down to jealousy is some ppl are bagging gary as they see him as "rich"
when really all hes doing is setting a goal. and doing it right.
he deciededs he needs a certain thing to do what he wants his car to do, so he does it.
its not as though hes driven it to a workshop and said "spend 100k on it"

theres a difference between throwing money at a car, and doing the job right.

also gary does a fair whack of the work himself

yes warwick im jealous thats it

im disapointed that hes gone so far with so much thought and then done this with the money he woudl have spent on that rad he could well have done a better job

sorry gary it just pissed me off no end to see that
your not stupid and it was a bit unfair to imply that

i have a "preformance" shop that is in the building next to ours and and spend a bit of time helping the guy with simple shit hes dose wrong like

no you cant mig weld a cast manifold (but dose it anyway and wonders why it cracks and falls off)
and yes you do need to debur all your tubes after the cut
and OMFG why have you put that intercooler on that car its larger than the radiator

oh and the best one
no reving that car that missing all day wont fix the fact it has a $&#$% lead

one think i am serious on is you need to gusset the oil cooler brakets and the rad brakets

any vibration in the braket will cause the alloy to crystalise and fracture
and is why you manilfolds etc are all braced on your engine to stop this

perhaps you couls look at angle the rad a bit more forwad ath the bottom to allow air to flow past it

I'm just glad there's some people in TS that aren't total dreamers (like me :) ) and actually do what they set out to do.

Anyway, it's obvious that the size of the pre rad will affect the overall temp of the car, whether it's enough to worry about is a different story though.

The only thing I can see wrong with Gary's build is his video editing skills :P

vvega - You really need to learn how to "help" people and not talk to them in such a condescending tone.

Considering Gary has done a couple of targas and lots of track racing, I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing. As he has stated he's not building a track car or rally car, and the current state of his setup will be FINE for what he wants.

Just leave it at that. No need to turn every thread into a god damn bitch feast.

lol ash please tell me your experiance on the engineering of what hes done
im interested to know how you think its fine??

considering i built and deveopled plane parts for a few years id say im more than qualifed to comment been a professonal in this area
i dont see why you think this is a bitch fest

bbut please tell us your reasoning and the physics that explain your answer after all im sure you have soem factual basis for your comment

I don't know about other people....

But I don't see any real issues with Gary's setup.
A few points I see.
1) The temperature of the pre-rad will be relatively low. Especially since most of the time there will be bugger all heat going into the WA IC system.
2) Most engine cooling systems are pretty vastly oversized. On my car there is ALMOST no need for a waterpump. I run a davies craig EWP with controller unit and no thermostat (cause that'd be silly). And during normal road use (and even some relatively spirited runs) the pump barely gets above 30% full load. In fact most of the time it's not even running. I have had no issues so far.
3) Yes there will be some flow restriction. But all that'd be needed to mitigate some of this will be to duct the area to provide good clean direct flow of air.

I think it was a nice job and should go well. Will it be a bit of an overkill?
