All time 4WD and Full time 4WD

My question is this, Is there a difference between all time 4WD and full time 4WD, and if so what is the difference.

generally 'all-wheel drive', like subaru uses it, has all wheels driven at all times, usually with limited slip center diffs etc. In case you're wondering, your celica would fall under the classification of all-wheel drive.

Four-wheel drive, generally, is used to describe cars which normally only drive 2 wheels, but have a second gear stick which allows you to shift into 4wd, (and usually high-ratio 4wd), or sometimes locking front hubs where you get out of the car and lock them manually.

So is there a difference in the ones where you can change from fwd to 4wd and the ones that are all time 4wd? I thought there was a difference in the differentials of something....
