What's she worth?

Postby Levin » Sun Mar 19, 2006 10:01 pm

Hey all, sadly I now have to sell my beloved ST185, but before I put her up for sale I was after peoples opinions on what its worth? Heres the details:

1989
ST185 Celica GT Four
125000ks
Recently replaced all filters
Did oil change (magnatec)
Flushed radiator
Replaced worn diff bush ($300 just for the bush!)
Recently aligned wheels
Has sony explod 6x9's, rockfordfosgate 4"s + tweaters and factory 4"s, kenwood headunit
16" porsche rims (fake im guessing)
Boost gauge
Boost controller
RPS muffler (muffler only with factory exhaust)
K&N air filter element
Colour : black
Fulltime 4WD
Small area of faded paint

Plus the rest, electrics, air con etc

Thanks for the help :)

probably $4-5K, due to low kms, depending on condition, although since it's such an old one, probably closer to the $4K mark.

seen them selling between 3000-6000 in good nick. Mileage is on its side, but faded patch of paint detracts a little from value probably somewhere around All_Fours valuation of 4k...but depends on speed you wish to sell also

Current Dog and Lemon guide says $1500 to $3000 for good cond. model.
$1000 to $2000 for avg. cond. and $500 to $1000 for bad cond. model.

But you should be able to get more because its got extras.

Good Luck

I hope you are not ripped off and get a good price.

It lists them in the same piece and has same prices for both fwd and 4wd.

Just find someone without a dog and lemon guide.

Yeah theyre not always right but they seem mostly onto it as in all Mitsis, Nissans and Hondas are gay, all Toyotas are awesome.

I sold mine with a rebuilt engine (forgies), turbo, newish clutch, basically the 200km service (belts tensioners water pump etc) done and it was pretty straight. Boost and oil pressure gauges, Sony Xplod CD but other than that pretty stock on 14" ROH rims. Had 220km on it and I got $4.5k for it. It was a 1990 and this was about 6 months ago I spose. Probably the best guide is what people have actuially sold them for rather than what they are asking for them.

Very low Km's too so that should help if they are genuine. Good luck with the sale.

The D&L guide is a very one eyed crock of shyte...read any review of any sports car, that'll let you know pretty quick smart.
Unless its a nana spec Corolla, then you shouldnt own one (Unless the new versions are a bit less biased.)

As for the GT Four, I'd say around the $4500 mark too...how bad is the faded section? Would it be worthwhile having it resprayed?
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

How does the 'dog and lemon quide' work? sounds abit crap to me. does it take into account cars that are rare such as ae86's and ta22's etc or does it just look at it as a 70'/80's old crappy toyota and say they are worth $1500.. much the same way as insurance companies tend to do.

Its not too bad, it has good ratings for a lot of old toyotas but doesnt actually list many cars before 1985 so theres no ae86s etc.

the dog and lemon guide cracks me up

according to them, suzuki cultus/baleno's have an inherant problem with power steering rack failure. I work at the countries biggest suzuki 2nd hand parts place, and we've only ever sold 2, both due to the car being curbed.............

The faded paint is fairly noticeable, and does need respraying, although its not a huge area. I've just had an offer of 4200 and I think that thats about right... will try squeeze a few more dollars out of him though :D

It aint going to be easy saying goodbye to this car :(
