You can thank the crazy germans for this one.
They always take things that little bit further.

But however, my reccomendations:
Sound deadening in the passenger compartment in mine equated to about 6kgs. Not worth the effort. I only did mine because I had the interior out anyway, and some of it was $$%.
However if you are going to do this, I reccomend getting an air powered chisel, it makes it less than an hours work.
Pull out the carpet that's on the firewall when you race, as that's 5kgs by itself.
As it is backed with some thick rubber, obviously to reduce noise.
Plastic interior bits weigh SFA.
Obviously, ditch the spare tire, aircon (There's a lot more than just the pump!), get rid of the gen 2 wing (it weighs about 6kgs IIRC) The rear boot spring, motorised ariel.
Take out the metal undertray from the underside of your engine lid. (it unscrews)
Hrmm, that's all of the easy things that I can think of.
Oh, and pull out any stereo bits etc if you've got a massive sound install.
and as for weight balance...
Obviously not something to worry about if you're drag racing, but perhaps something to take into account on the track.
However, that doesnt mean that you shouldnt strip stuff out....
You can 'ballast' the car later if you need to, with bags of sand, or lead bars or something. The point of this, is that you can put the weight back on up the front exactly where you need it, eg. as low to the ground as possible, and between the front wheels (ish).
Also, if you could find a spare front/rear bonnet for cheap, you could cut all of the framing out of the inside, and use these just for when you're racing.
Depends on how serious you are I suppose.
If I ever get my car going, and I ever take it down to the drags, or taupo etc, I'm going to get a spare bonnet and boot lid/engine lid first, and paint them pink, and have a list of my sponsors on them. eg. Just Cuts hair college, Rodney Wayne, etc. etc.
