how much did you guys spend on your parts?

You would only need a turbo + manifold and appropriate piping.
Best get a FMIC as well as the topmount gze isnt really suited for the turbo, unless you chop one of the bars and flip it, i.e have the inlet/outlet on opposite sides.

Could be done for less than a grand

sorry to drag up an old thread guys, but you NZ fella's seem to have a lot more GTE experience than anyone in sydney does!

im currently running a s14 silvia T28 on a stainless lowmount manifold.. its spooling really slow these days and i was after a few opinions..

do you guys think that exhaust wrap stuff would help retain a bit hore heat and help the spool a bit??? i've heard of people having problems with stainless cracking with that wrap over it tho.. any thoughts there?

i also had the idea that the turbo might need a rebuild..

im running a low comp gze (8.0:1) on 15psi from that setup and its making full boost by about 5000rpm... which seems a little too laggy to me..

what do you guys recommend i do?! thanks in advance for any ideas.. and here are a few pics of my manifold ect...

hey man, nice looking manifold, bazda on here had trouble with his manifold (steam tube) crackng on his old car with the heat wrap, he's advized me to stay away from it,

i'd assume it would be even more likely to crack with stainless, so my next opinion would be to get them treated with hpc or procoat,

cheers

Hey NVD05X, nice looking rolla.

From those pictures it appears the runners are of un-even length. Even length headers should spool quicker and work better overall, someone on here will be able to shed light on the topic.

I bigger dump pipe will help although that looks like a pretty meaty dump pipe already.

The obvious but most expensive option would be an aftermarket ECU, richen it off boost.

thanks for your thoughts guys... sorry i wast too clear in my last post, but i already have a microtech LTX10s running things at the moment.

ill be getting a retune pretty soon and i might bump the boost up tp 16psi to see what difference that makes.

and also i have a greddy profec b spec 2 controlling boost.

upping the boost wont help with spooling or anything. NOS, antilag, compression increase, cams (maybe), external gate, electronic boost controller (a good one) will help.

If its spooling slower than it used to, then its probably just tired and needs a rebuild.
Otherwise, the compression is probably why it takes so long to spool, thats a reasonably sized turbo for a low comp 1600 to spin.

Would an external be required for a TD05h? Running something in the region of 16psi. I aren't to sure what the stock gate's limit is.

^ i was under the belief that the more boost you run the less work your wastegate does, therefore stock one should suffice

Nah some turbos creep if the wastegate isn't big enough. Bascially at more boost your engines flowing more air, this flows more exhaust which the wastegate has to cater for.

I know people running standard td05's with EBC at 1.3bar. It holds sweet 8) with plenty of thrashing

Id go with the external on a td05 as they are reknown for overboosting.

Had serious issues with mine overboosting and now run external and EBC and get very consistent and reliable boost levels

thats what i wanted to hear! i hope thats all it is..

im running a greddy profec b spec 2 boost controller, and that brought boost on about 500rpm sooner..

i was thinking about using the smaller rear housing from a t25 i have that came off a ca18det, with my t28 compressor housing, and getting them rebuilt and combined into a t25/28 hybrid..

do you guys think that would fix my problem?

I've had a HT18 on my car and it went quite well. I've now ditched that and running a To4e. Yes its got more lag but it seems to be making half decent power.
