this thread sucks :( i own a r32 gtst manual skyline and it sucks to admit that the honda would win!! :( my bfs old car was a 89 1.6l vtec teg and it went real hard till bout 120ks! i wasnt a big honda fan till i got to drive it  v-tecs are awsome for a non-turbo
my bf raced my car against a 92? sir civic, which was just piontless! no traction in the line (is that a good thing or bad thing  )i kno of a prelude thats utter poos. a manul 2.2 vtec, which my b4 raced in his 1.6l non vtec auto crx, the crx won! how sad is that, or maybe the prelude driver couldnt drive for sh*t?!!!

sounds like the manual car driver spun the wheels while the auto car just drove away with the win.

It may come as a surprise to some, but not every car on the road made for drifting or drag racing. Don't worry, that one got me too :o

True, you missed out track and gravel. Why else would you buy a car then spend time on an enthusiast website?

Anyway, Prelude FTW.

If it wasn't VTEC, it would be even, maybe even skyline for the win.. I've driven both, anything RB-powered doesn't feel fast, as they have such a smooth torque delivery, but they're actually quite quick, and easy to launch with the auto. The Prelude on the other hand, yeah they're 200hp, but the gearing is so long, and the car is so heavy, they're hard to launch properly, and really need to be punished to keep them in the meat of the torque band.

What was said before, about quoting figures, isn't real world racing. I'm sure with any car, you could make it look fast on paper, but there are so many variables with racing.. gearing, etc.. its' almost down to luck on the day.

With that said, over a 1/4 mile situation, I'd put the Skyline with the win. Those RB25 NEO motors are quite punchy, with huge topend, whereas the H22A, with its' long gearing, starts to run out of breath quickly. Maybe with perfect shifting, the prelude would keep up, but if it wasn't VTEC, the R34 would pull away.

On a side note, if those Preludes are so fast, then why do most still only do 15 - 16 sec 1/4 miles?

Where did you get the idea the 2.2VTEC ones do 15-16s 1/4 miles? Most people I knew with them were doing 14s. I did 14s with my old one completely bog standard on crappy tyres, full interior etc :D

The *VTEC* Prelude's gearing isn't that long either. The non-VTEC ones are terrible, however.

I'd put it to the VTEC Prelude as an easy win, and I should feel some allegiance to the R34 - as my current toy is an RB25 powered thing :)

I agree with Lith on that ... the little honda would win from what I understand.

However, I had a 'play' with a V-Tec 2.2 Prelude in my race car... I've decided that they aren't that special and their weight doesn't appear to do them any favours at all. But perhaps it wasn't a fair competition

So a 1240kg prelude has a weight disadvantage against a skyline?

Changing almost on the H22A limiter will drop it back to just before vtec in most of the gears, it would be no contest at all. I've been in a similar situation (vs a n/a manual r32 GTS), and it was a cheerful owning.

OK - a road car vs. a race car? Surely you of all people could appreciate the irrelevance of such a comparison? :P And even more so, an NA GTS25 Skyline in an equivalent state to the Prelude would be even less competition.

A 2.2VTEC Prelude race car would be pretty formidible.

I'd happy take on an NA Prelude with my Skyline however :D

this thread will never work there are too many people who hate hondas no matter how fast they go. my mate thought his 2.5l na r32 was quick until he drove an integra. he still hates hondas but acknowledges it will eat his car

This thread will never work there are too many people who hate Emperor.

To everyone in this thread: Shame on you for expressing you opinion. You should know that Toyspeed is all about proper structured debate and including facts and figures when you make a claim. This man should be respected, he has a racing licence.

Emperor: You bought this on yourself, so don't get mad. If you didn't want dumb (and quite often very humourous) answers, then don't ask TS people.
