brake pads st205

Postby TRDmod » Wed Mar 22, 2006 3:57 pm

Hi guys
i want high temp racing brakes, i dont want the ones that work from a hot temp, i want ones that work from 0 degrees that has a high heat tolerance.

like mintex m1166.

i got quoted 370 for the fronts, that includes a backing plate from them.

is that reasonable? does anyone know where to get ones cheaper or beter ones?

Hi gary

do you have any experience with the BLACK PADS from warwick at toyota?
they dont say that temp range, but he said those are the only ones avail from trd for 205s.

i was wondering how they were, in terms of temp hangling.
my standard pads, on puke, after 3-4 laps on the straight, they start to fade extremely, will these fix that,

anyone else have any feedback on these pads?

Not used them (TRD pads) at Puke, but overall, I'm happy with them. On the Targa Tour the other year they performed extremely well with no sign of fade despite being pushed fairly hard. However, the back straight at Puke is a different kettle of fish.

targa

Postby TRDmod » Wed Mar 22, 2006 6:36 pm

how fast was the fastest speed you did in the targa, this would determine its feasability.

in the back straights i will reach top speed of my car, which is 240 i think
and would have to slow to 80-90 ks ont he hair pin ....

was the targa that fast or was it more windy roads?

Didn't reach 240km/h. Lost of twisty roads which could be hard on the brakes.
Remember that the Targa Tour isn't a race and usual road speeds should be adhered to

i dont actually know what targa is bout
i just see the dunlop targa with the 911 turbo that kicks asssss

and stuff, they go fast!but fair enough
i guess only one way to find out is to try it
but its 220, and if it doesnt perform how i need it to, then its waste of money

On my ST165 I used Pagid Yellow on Puke. These are endurance pads and hence didn't fade at all and worked really well. Cold they didn't do a thing!

They also caused severe crazing in the front disks.

I'd get race pads for the track and swap out for street pads. Pad changes on a ST205 are easy after all.

The TRD black pads are fine for rally use. We've used them for years and even at Taranaki, where we were seeing over 200kph, they were fine.
In fact we preferred them to some of the more expensive pads. They give good pedal feedback, they're light on rotors and they stop really well.
But they do have an operating temperature scale up to 500C.

On circuit, with a heavy car like a GT4, they may be a bit underdone.

If you want to give them a try we've got a set here which are surplus to our requirements and we'd give you a substantial discount off the normal price.

cheers
